Won't Turnover
 

Folks,

Recently, I was working on the car and broke the distributor cap. More specifically, the metal bolt on the cap which goes to the ignition coil. Well, I replaced the distributor cap and put all the wires back in the correct sequence. I went to start the car and nothing again. I turn the key to 12v ignition, when I turn to start the engine all I get is silence. What am I missing? I am going to upload some pictures. Picture 1 is slightly blurry, however is there suppose to be a white plug sticking out of the wire which leads to the igintion coil? Picture 2 is a shot of the igntion cap. I would appreciate if anyone can tell me if that looks right or is broken.

I am unsuccessful at u/l the pictures to the board. What is the trick to do that? I'm dying here :(

I don't have any advice on the car but perhaps I can help with the image. Try finding somewhere on the web to host your pics (a webpage or server to upload the pics to and store on the internet) A page like freewebspace.com or geocities.com or sever hundred other free sites are sufficient for simply hosting pics. The upside to using these is that #1 they are free of cost. #2 they are usually setup with some sort of idiotproof "builder" already in place so that it makes uploading pictures and other content pretty easy.
The downsides are #1 they often are limited with linking the pictures you post. #2 size and orginality is at a minumum.

I am not a techie, just an idiot learning like everyone else on the web.

If the starter does not turn over and your instrument panel lights up when you turn the key on, then you need to look at the starting system.

I went and looked at the manual and to trouble shoot the ignition system, the starter has to be turning.

I will spend a few more moments looking up the starter, however the honey do list is being placed in front of me. Please let me know how it goes, and I will try and get you pointed in the right direction.

I just sent the pics to Greg. He is going to help post them for me. Pic 1 is a general engine bay shot. Pic 2 is the starter plug. Pic 3 is a close up of the ignition coil. I posted (Pic2/3) to understand if they are broken or look right.
Again, when I turn the ignition over, all I hear is the relay switch click and that's it.

The plug wires and the distributer cap will not affect the starter motor. In your initial entry you stated that when you turned the key you got silance. In your last reply you stated that all you heard was the relay switch. Have you checked your battery?

Thanks for your help. In diagnosing the easy stuff, I realized the ignition control unit plug had become slightly disconnected. That eliminated the silence when turning on the ignition. Reconnected the started plug to ingnition coil and voila, it turned right on. Now all I have to do is fix the leaky radiator on the passenger side...ahh doesn't it ever end... <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" />

Since you have the problem solved, and in the interest of saving bandwith, I dropped the pix of the coil and the wire.

The pic of the engine bay is quite good. Great for reference.
