I did a lap on the Nordschleife early on one cold & icy November morning in my 928s in 12 minutes. When the track warmed up later I was quicker but did not time it; I would guess 10.5 minutes but that is just a guess.
There are people in the 8/8.5 minute range with 928's but that requires a lot of experience, sticky tyres & a relatively clear track. Motor bikes can really hold you up because they do not look out for faster cars, they brake early for curves and then use the whole road on curves although not at optimum speeds.
Myself, I pass bikes by braking later at curves but then I have a bad line through the curve which does not benefit end to end time

I remember reading an article written about the conception of the 928. Engineers set out to make a car( in the 928) with which an amateur driver could lap the 'Ring in under 10 minutes. ( that was back in the 1970's!)

IIRR early ROW S made it in low nine minutes. Tire technology has advanced so much since then that 30 second faster time now on othervise stock 928 could be possible.

Maybe my memory is playing tricks about best 928 lap times; I remember that Dr Nick posted here a 8:49 lap time.

marton, alex p has an article in a german magazine from back in the day where a stock 91 GT lapped in about 8:30 driven by a racing driver, on standard 16" rims.. puts my effort into some kind of perspective! there is no doubt that my 928 is way quicker than i am, it weighs less than the GT, makes more power and has bigger rubber and better suspension - im just a woose

Interesting....so my stock 88 S4 would do about an 8:24....which I think it a shade optimistic...maybe with Sabine Spitz (or whatever her name is)......So I estimated some other well known 928's

Kibort.... 7:58 (I think he could do better, 2800lbs 375hp)
Anderson 7:37 (again I think he could do better, 2650lbs 588hp)
Louie Ott 7:43 (full weight but 675hp makes up for alot, 3700lbs 675hp)

I thought I remembered an 8:30, I feel better now.

I was at the Ring for one of the Euro 928s; maybe 2002 or 2003 & Sabine Spitz (or whatever her name is) was there. I do not remember if it was Sabine or another experienced Ring driver who took a 928 around for some fast laps; one of the guys (from Holland?) tried to keep up but span off. Maybe somebody remembers better & even knows the ring times?

Hey Nick if you are a wuss then i am off the scale

marton, if youve driven the ring in around 10 minutes that is going quickly without argument. especialy if you have not been around the many corners hundreds of times like sabine or the other ring meisters! i think the video that is posted on youtube filmed from my car is in the region of ten minutes, that was after about 25 laps total. around the ring discretion is the better thing, and live to come back and try again. the thing is, i always leave knowing where i can go faster and having to come back to prove it i love that place.
