LH 2.2/EZF replacements

With the release of the LH2.2/EZF sharktuner are there any other LH or EZF modules that can be reprogrammed to work in a 928? SAAB? Mercedes?

John Speake 12-28-2007 05:16 AM

The Volvo 740 and 760 turbo LH boxes look the same from the outside, but in fact they are rather different inside. Not feasable to use those.

I buy them to rob the 25 way connectors for SharkTuner LH2.2/EZF break out boxes.

IIRC, most Volvos are LH 2.4 as are 90 or 91+ SAABs. I think 84-88 SAABs are LH 2.2 and the boxes go for well under $100 on ebay in supposedly working condition.

John Speake 12-28-2007 11:49 AM

Yes, that is correct, I was talking about LH2.2 only. The later LH2.4 as used on Volvo and Saab again look similar outside to the Porsche LH2.3 but inside there are completely different, much simpler.

Could an 84-88 SAAB LH 2.2 be used in place of an 84-86 928 LH 2.2?

Does this mean you can buy one of these Saab units and swap out the guts and EPROMs, and your good to go?

I've tried to explain the the earlier and the later Saab/Volvo LH2.2 and LH2.3 "equivalents" are not compatable..

So, there is nothing hardware compatible with an 0 280 002 501/2/3?

borland 12-28-2007 12:51 PM

OK, thanks. Must be something like the fuel injector drivers can't handle the current for that many injectors.

AFAIK, there's programming in chip(s) soldered onto the board of the LH, that's unique to the application. So, just changing the EPROM won't make it work.

borland 12-28-2007 01:33 PM

What programming? And if that's the case, why didn't they solder the EPROMs in too?

John Speake 12-28-2007 01:48 PM

It's not as simple as that.....

borland 12-28-2007 03:15 PM

No need to be evasive. This is supposed to be a forum for ideas about the 928, not just for the benifit of the sponsors.

I guess I'm stomping on the wrong feet here by asking a simple question.

Nothing is that simple it's like the 5 min job that ends up being a career :)

It's a simple question, but not a simple answer. I am not being evasive - I just don't have time to make a very detailed long reply to verify what I have told you.

"Being a sponsor" is nothing to do with the brevity of my response. I'm just telling you that investigating that avenue would be a waste your time.
