1 7/8 is a bit big for a small block----

MSDS is 1 3/4 primary tube.....

Wade - I think you'd like the sound of headers/Y-pipe/Borla cat-back--it's what I've got on my 84S. The sound is great; I only listen to the stereo on long trips. I don't know what kind of headers the PO put on, the pipes are all 2". Looks like he had a clearance issue with the pipe on each side that is next to the motor mounts because they're slightly concaved (beaten w/ a hammer). I looked all over the headers for a manufacturer name when I had them off, but couldn't find a name. For all I know, could be for a Chevy V8... I did have a new Y-pipe made at a local muffler shop when I put the headers back on. Cost was around $50. FWIW - I'd follow flying dog's advice and have them coated. High temp paint didn't work for me. / Bruce

With a 4.5, a little grinding on the stock manifolds, still on the car, combined with head pipes from a 32V cat, will give you as much, but likely more, torque and hp than headers, IMHO.
