Which Supercharger Kit ?
Hi Everyone,
I am a complete novice on these superchargers etc. hence need your advice in this. I am contemplating on fitting a Supercharger to my S4 and wanted to know whats the best kit available for this? What would everyone recommend and where would I source it from? Sorry for the basic questions. Cheers Syed |

I think the Turbo Charger kits don't have it all worked out yet (I THINK) I have the Murf Set up # 44 and love it on my 87 $4 Auto. Not a bad install and comes off very easy if it needs to. Only other option is the Twin Screw not an easy install. Lots of info here PM me if you want more info.

And to Joe's point, there is an S4 Twin Turbo in the final stages of development available. Do some searching on twin turbo for more on this as well.

Twin Turbo and single turbo all of this turbo stuff is still in the RD stages.

I have the 928 Specialists Twin Screw kit. It's a blast, but requires you to be a bit of a do it yourselfer. Not rocket science by any means, but the install is quite a bit more involved, but the results are amazing!

I think its time we had a shoot-out. Find 3-4 cars all the same model like all S4's and do before and after dynos to see what these things do in comparison to one another.
I currently favor Mark Robinson's mid mount turbo, its really easy to mount and the cheapest thing available, plus many other positive things. BUT he dosent have anyone on the list running one. I know he has shipped a half dozen or so kits, but I am not about to be a test mule for it. So i am still holding off. I was tempted to buy the 928 SP kit 4-5 months back but they arent available, and i couldnt tell you why not. Currently, It seems like the Murf SC is the only thing that you could buy today and have running next week. |
if and when John Khun's twin turbo kit becomes available, it will probably be the best bang for the money, if he keeps the price competitive......
He's posted well over 500 rwhp, about 575 on torque with an unmolested (except for the kit) 32V 5-speed S4, and trashed the clutch on the first dyno run..... Mark Robinson's single turbo kit is another kit available. I don't care for the design, as it is a rear under car turbo mounting, however it is a nice looking kit. For the supercharger offerings you have 928 Specialist (twin screw), Murf's (centrifugal), and Carl Fauset's (centrifugal). there are a few custom owner built systems, but are not readily available for sale to my knowledge... it just depends which engine/car you have, and whether you are a turbo or supercharger fan. prices are competitive amongst the entire group. my biggest concern is the overwhelming "just bolt it on" without taking into considerations of what it will over-stress (engine, drivetrain, suspension, etc...) Most kits are limiting boost pressures to avoid blown headgaskets, shredded clutches and twisted auto trannies.... --Russ |

The biggest part of getting SCer is making sure your car is up to snuff. I've had to upgrade my clutch and am now in the process of replacing my head gaskets, but my problem was cause by the wrong kind of antifreeze used in the cooling system. You should probably budget at least $2k~$4k (more if you pay to have it done) for other work to bring the car up proper working order to handle the additional power. You may not need it, but if you don't have it in reserve and something happens... well I think you know the problem. Plan for the worst, hope for the best. |
