It looks like a sensor, maybe a bimetal temp sensor. It is just laying on the right valve cover. The two wires run to the temp sensor on top of the thermostat.

It looks like the top of a broken sensor. Ed had a good pic, so I used it for example only. Thanks Ed. Possibly as Jim B said, a resistor to trick temp sensor.

Sorry about that, I clicked back and used who started that thread. I'll correct it.

I'll look again tomorrow. The wiring diagram indicates it may be the temp switch for the refridgerant; it wires into the water temp sensor. Doesn't show a resistor, though. Why try to trick the temp sensor?

There are some vendors that claim a performance increase from their cheap product. Usually just a resistor to fool the coolant temp sensor or intake air temp sensor for a richer mixture. Can find them for any vehicle, garbage.

I don't think its a resistor - looks like the configuration of a standard thermal switch, (maybe a temp sensor). Usually these are clamped to the sensing surface with a spring clip - it may have broken off wherever it was mounted. Someone is trying to trick something it would seem... is it connected in parallel to the water bridge temp sensor? (or in series?) or was it an aftermarker replacement there...? you do still have a temp sensor there?

Alan
