Default GTS Oil Pan Baffle any benefits?

Pondering if I should install or not. What's your opinion.

My opinion is minimally. I think I have read where someone had one come loose - not a good thing. Easy to install- if you have the pan off.

I installed one, but I think its more of a placebo then anything. It can't hurt if installed properly. Onth the other hand, I've read of more than one instance where they came loose and became a nice ball of tinfoil in the sump. If you really want oil control, you need to go with the scraper/spacer set up and perhaps a more complete baffle. JMHO.

Crankscraper is $700.00, so that's out. Anyone have a before and after story?
I mean the factory installed it for a reason.

If anyone is even remotely worried about the bolts backing out, then i suggest you leave well enough alone and not bother.

I have run with one for over a year and when i pulled the pan to swap it to the new engine i rebuilt i didn't notice anything bolts loose or falling out. If this concerns you then don't do the baffle, its use is really still debate-able i think. If bolts do in fact come loose then this could be a pretty serious issue and labor intensive to fix even assuming there was no other damage other then to the baffle itself. I honestly haven't heard of baffles coming loose, has anyone actually seen this? If so what type of bolts were used to fasten it? I used the porsche supplied allen head bolts with integral washer. I am curious if others have used something else.

I worry these concerns are just here-say and nothing more.

The scrapers work a treat, you will have about inperceptible oil comsumption, you wont blow smoke on the dyno, (I know not all 928s do but plenty blow plenty) I did 2,500 miles and used a tenth of a litre, that was some hard driving but no track work.

use some sheet alloy and make a better one that wont allow oil to go backwards in the pan. here is a pic of mine in my GTS engine, adapted from loiue otts design.

I saw a picture of one that ended up bunched up in a corner of the sump. I think that's probably the same one that pmotts and atb mentioned. I've also personally seen a different one that was in the process of coming loose. The bolts were all still tight, but the aluminum of the baffle was broken around some of the bolt heads. The bolts were still securing those small pieces of baffle that had broken off, but the main part of the baffle was separated from them, and could flex up and down in that area. The area around the next bolt in line was cracked part of the way around that bolt head. It was pretty obvious that it would have just been a matter of time before enough of the baffle would have become loose to have it get mangled by the rotating assembly.
