The topic interests me as i am about to swap a LSD unit bought from 928INT into my 87 euro. Can someone give me a heads up on setting the LSD.....how do you make adjustments to the amount of slip and what is an optimum number.....i do DE's, so handling is important....i have the workshop manuals but haven't found any info on mechanical LSD......any help would be appreciated as the diff comes out on Thursday.

Doing a burnout can be mis-leading. Many open diffs, at times can dual stripe. Checking trans # and option code works. With vehicle raised and checking is usually best. Some LSD's with worn clutches can be misleading. They might only lay one patch and only one wheel might spin while checking with vehicle raised.

Both wheels will always spin with the vehicle raised, with an open diff, the wheels will go opposite directions, with LSD, they will go the same direction, except if you are in gear when you do the test.
do burn outs. more fun and its very rare to get 2 strips with an open diff.
didnt you ever see the movie "my cousin vinnie" ?

The most accurate test, remove the rear cover and look. As said the clutches wear out, the two patch wheel test is only accurate on a working LSD. If you see one patch you still could have a worn LSD and not know it. That picture shown is an open Diff.
This is late LSD with the bigger windows, more lube to the clutches.

I didn't see anyone post this yet, but on your options list in the back of the car it is option 220. I sadly do not have this option. I leave wimpy single line burnouts.

yep,
my euro currently has an open diff in it, and will leave two tire patches every time I dump the clutch.
Jack up the car, spin the tires, one goes forward and the other goes backward. Open diff.
check the stamping number, open diff.
However, I just purchased an LSD for install this winter [not that we have winter here.....]

I have LSD and I don't know if it's a characteristic of the unit but my car "rolls" very slightly, like a ship, two or three times as I make a low-speed turn. Anybody else come across this?
