Michael you're right it's a gamble but not completely. I wouldn't buy my next car site unseen and I have an eye for details. If it's not the right car to meet my goals I wont' go for it. But if it's close and needs a T-Belt or Steering Rack I wouldn't hesitate. IMHO Mechanical items are much easier to get right than cosmetics. I won't be showing in a full concours, just the top only so I won't care if the new steering rack has blue cad plating instead of gold....etc. T-Belts aren't visible to the eye, they perform a critical function but it doesn't matter if it's made by continental or goodyear. Now matching paint on a metallic car is difficult to do and as Sterling has already demonstrated with his beauty, just can't be done 100% perfectly without redoing the entire car. Same applies to redoing the leather. If I install a new leather seat cover on the drivers seat I will regret not covering everything else because it won't be perfect. I guess that's what makes me tick and I can say that not many will agree with my thinking.

Dave definitely does some amazing work and he pays attention to the details which is really critical IMHO. This or possibly my future shark will continue going to Dave for service work that I just can't do. He is as **** about keeping records as I am about cleaning/restoration. Between the two of us we could probably open up a restoration shop just for sharks....hmmm that would be cool!

Ok. I'm dying here. Saying that you have an eye for detail is like saying... oh, I dunno... Mark Anderson's an ok driver or that Wally's mildly good a debugging, or that Earl Gilstrom's knows a little about 928s.

Folks, Afshin's scary. He can see a speck of dirt from 20 yards away or an imperfection in paint in bad light with his peripheral vision.

I keep my cars covered when he comes over...

Only two problems: we'd never be 'done' with a car, and no one would pay us

LOL. When Afshin lived out here in CA with his 500E, he would tape up his mirrors, fenders, and hood for GTG's.

I have probably 120 hours of Dave C work on my S4, complete with write-ups that include part numbers, color pictures, and conclusions worthy of a doctoral thesis at M.I.T.
Having a "Dave C'ed" car is way beyond scheduled maintenance, preventative maintenance, or enthusiast owned. It's "**** probe maintained".
I have done all the easy stuff myself: pan gasket/mm, suspension, brakes, etc.

Just a funny note: at SITM I always try to get Wally P, Earl Gillstrom, Dave C and some others to sit at my table so that I can get smarter just by listening.

Thanks Angela, I also love this color especially on a shark. I won't show Sean your comment for fear he might get some ideas.
