Ouch, shouldn't have done that. Just had a wallet cramp....
See, I wanted to make my 80 perfect, but then I totalled up the cost, and went out and bought a perfect 85 for less money. The car literally needs nothing. This is an odd state of affairs, and I am having difficulty adjusting.

The 80, as is, makes a great beater, although I expect I will want a proper gearbox rebuild at some point, and painting the nose and tail. So much for saving money, which is why I continue to use it as my second truck.

You know my wife asked me this very question not long ago. How many are enough? When does this end? Is there a forseeable END to this goal of yours?

A couple of hours of me explaining this and that and a few other things I have rolling around upstairs and she looked at me and said, "Your crazy!".

Three 928s, one auto and two manuals. One with a Murf stage III, one with a turbo of some sort, one with a twinscrew. All will eventually be perfect to me. All of them will have different applications. At least two of them will need repaints.

It is hard to be certain of a completion to any 928. At least not and be a member of this Forum. Everytime I "think" I have a firm game plan, someone on here comes up with a new Bright Idea that takes me off course.

I have spent more money buying upgrades that I've learned about on this forum then I spend on maintenance and gas...

New wheels and tires, $2500.
a couple of interior pieces, not much $500.
Trans rebuild with new converter $3200.
Supercharger or Turbo $6000. +/-
I would throw in an engine rebuild, but at 205K mi it is still pretty tight.

so, $6200. would make it nice and factory fresh, another six after that would get it screaming.

I agree with Andrew, I wouldn't want mine perfect unless I could afford to keep it that way while still driving the hell out of it. My wanna do list includes:

Door Conversion.............................$1000
Paint..............................................$4000
Twin Turbo System.........................$3500
Interior...........................................$2000
Brakes and Suspension Upgrades......$1500
Aero Mirrors....................................$400
Tires to Fit My New Wheeels.............$900

Holy smokes, I'm soooo upside down its not funny. And this list can be doubled since I have two 928's that need these things. Anyone wanna buy my 84?

Seriously.

Mine is just perfect for me. Looks good for a 15 year old car, starts with no problems and takes me everywhere.
The best part: It's still good for up to 174 MPH on the Autobahn

After chasing everything for 3 years, I think the definition of perfect has to be:
Your 928 runs great, sounds great and gets you to all the 928 events all year.

The more I keep going in this direction makes me want to sell and get out of 928s and back into motorcycles...

I would think a complete restoriation to be perfect would be in the area of 30-50K. Just my guess.... to make it that everything works again, add new paint 7000.00.

Are you offering your tires to the alignment gods?
I will need some test 928's to get a handle on doing them.
Your tire life may vary.
But the price will be right, free for the trial 928's.
Absolutely, love to take a little road trip. My car drives very well and the tires are showing very little wear right now, so maybe it would be a good baseline.
