Yep...stepped in it. LOL.
The general consensus is that the paper filters dyno just as well as the K & N.
While there is an advantage to the longevity of the K & N, if they are over oiled during service they will
degrade and contaminate the hot wire on the MAF .....so many people have decided to stick with the paper elements.
I run a K & N, but I limit myself during the filter maintenance and stay away from the more is better philosophy when oiling.
Regards,
Ken

On the air filters, it's all about miles. If you only put a couple thousand miles on in a year, you can probably get by with changing it ever two or three years. If you have a K&N I'd clean and re-oil as part of my annual spring-time ritual... just go easy on the oil as suggested above.

sounds like sticking with original paper is the better way to go then. probably wont be putting tons of mileage on so even if i had to change it more than once a year it will be cheaper to use them over the k&n
thanks guys.

The paper air filter must have 3-4 times the surface area of the K&N. Whenever you reduce surface area and claim better airflow or just the same flow, inherently you have to let a lot more particulates through.

good point. i would feel more comfortable going through two originals a year rather than one k&n , especially since the cost ends up being the same. and it sounds like less hassle , not having to deal with oiling the k&n filter.
thanks for the info folks.
aside: im sure its normal but i keep getting these horrible urges to look on ebay and other sites for 928s to buy. even though there is no way i should do it..dont need one and it really makes no sense. i just WANT one! maybe a nice 968 for the wife will be next
