I would not get the RE-71s anymore. They are just outdated.
Some newer types, including my RE-730ies, have an extra rubber lip that protects the outer rim from being scratched by curbstones. That alone would be a big reason for me to go with a newer, little more expensive tire. The RE-730 had been recommended by lots of people on the 928S4vr discussion board.

Gretz--
I watched e-bay for a while and found a set pretty close to home. These are the C-4 spokes rather than the turbo-twists, but auction prices have been comparable. Try and find a set close to home, so that shipping doesn't add a bunch of hidden cost to your purchase.
search on "porsche" "wheels" "17" and not "hot" and you should see some candidates.
Look carefully if you are replacing design-90's or others on the GT in 8 and 9 inch sizes. Most of the factory takeoff wheels are showing up in 7 or 7.5 inch fronts with 8 or maybe 9 inch rears, a bit narrow compared to what the car came with. There's a thread on the rennlist 928 board now about what tire sizes are appropriate too.
Just be sure that your upgrade is really an upgrade.

I wouldn't shy away from RE-71's if the price was right. They are still a very good tire(IMO). I would not pay anywhere near retail for them however. The change to RE 730's was mainly b/c of European standards not poor performance.
You should check with your local P-car dealer, they sometimes have takeoffs cluttering up there parts warehouses.
Good luck

Gretz-
It is the only increased weight of 18" wheels that give the rougher ride. Larger diameter wheels of the same weight actually give a smoother ride.
If you find out the actual weights of various aftermarket wheels (this should be included in the standard spec given on wheels!) you will find that they vary enormously. If you pick your 18" wheels with this in mind the effect can be minimised. As you would expect the tendency is for the lighter wheels to also be the most expensive.
