Screw it, I'm getting a Lotus...

Time to start using the equipments full potential - of course it is slow when you baby it around the track.

My daughter enjoys driving her V-8 twin turbo Lotus that she has had for several months. Did need an alternator same as "Cadillac" Catera so the $1,200 dealer quote became a $300 rebuilt.

Let's be cereal about this. I saw a V8 red Lotus (Elise) yesterday in Seattle and it's a beautiful and striking car...but more expensive to maintain and (I've heard) less reliable than the 928. Two 928s and a Lotus (not Elige) would be nice to have in the paddock.
I gave up English cars and motorcycles because of reliability issues, largely electrical.

x 2.
I'd also add a Jaguar to the mix. Now that I think about it, if I could afford a Lotus, since I can't fit in one anyway (6'5"), I might as well go out and find my all time favorite, an E-Type.
Ok, put me down for 2 928's and an E-Type.

My great uncle Vincent had two Jag's years ago when I was a young pup. I'm not sure of the exact models/yrs, but one was a XK, somewhere between the 120 - 150. The other was one of the MK sedans. He was covering his Jag bases rather well. He was my hero.
Like just about everyone else, the E Types are by far my all time favorite car. And like so many others, I wish I had bought one 10-15 yrs ago when they were still relatively affordable.
The coupes/2+2's are still relatively affordable and I may loose my mind and purchase one of them one of these days.
Hmm, lets see. Sell the S4. Sell the Volvo 855R. Sell the pickup. Would just allow me to buy a "needs work" 2+2. Might be enough left over to allow me to afford a new bicycle helmet, since that would be my primary transportation after the Jag purchase.

And the MK sedans are crazy affordable right now. I've been considering buying one of those too. I like the idea of being able to putt around with the family in the four door. I love those old Jags - those straight 6's are killer. Plus I have a buddy that is a bit of an older Jag guru. I'd have a major resource only a few miles and a phone call away.
Oh man, this was not a good thread for me to stop in on.

The Mk 1 sedans were the first unibody no frame Jags and actually could be faster handle better than the XK 150 due to lighter weight. Rust is a big issue however since there is no frame ! I sold the Mk 1 when I got involved with Porsche's I came very close to ording a 4.5 liter stroker race engine but the VARA guys discourged that So I bought a 911 !

Painless wiring kit and you've got an incredible car for the money.
I can't believe how cheap three-four year old Vanden Plas are. I would love that as my family hauler. There are nearly no Jaguars (except the Ford X and S series, and maybe the new XF) I wouldn't want to own.

Can I play too? English sports cars have a lot a life but have no soul. They are ruled by the Prince of Darkness, Lord Lucas, and will break your heart every chance they can. They also leak.....anything and everything that is liquid. My first britmobile was a '61 Austin Healy 3000 in 1965, a 65 Healey 3000 (much more civilized) in 1968, a '64 Jag XKE roadster in 1972 and a '71 XKE Coupe in 1974. ALL of them were fun, gorgeous automobile in their day but were also the most unreliable POS to maintain. My first Porsche was a '86 1/2 944 and six years ago I bought my '91 $4. None of my previous cars are/were as comfortable, reliable and satisfying as the 928. Sure, the old jags look sweet but it would be like going to a 50th class reunion and seeing your old girlfriend; now a little snagley-toothed and not quite able and willing to "perform" to today's standards.

"Ed, why don't you tell us how you feel about what Jim and Matt just said?"
Jim, that is a riot. Matt, you are so right about Jags. The XJ's are dirt cheap. Anyone that buys a new Jag is taking a major right off the lot hit in value. They have been for years. Major hit!
I was XJ shopping for a bit, until I finally decided to look at a local XJ. It was in pristine shape. The owner showed me every little flaw. He seemed like a true Jag enthusiast, and a great guy. It was dirt cheap for what you got.
But when I sat in it, I was against the roof liner big time. I did all the usual tricks and couldn't get a fit that I could live with. Bummed me out. I'm still considering revisiting this situation as I would love to have a late model XJ for a commuter mobile.

OR, you go to your reunion, and you see your old flame, the one you never had the nerve, or means, to actually talk to, much less date. The one you admired from afar because you were a clueless geek (in my case).
AND she's aged gracefully, and has matured into a capable and confident women that can hold her own against any bubble gum chewing, tattoo sporting younger pain in the *** chick.
Sure, she has her flaws, we all do, but if you take the time to know her, and you still admire her graceful lines, its the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
Sniff, sniff. Christine Salazoni, where are you now?

Ed. Yeah, you are right. The jag XKE is like a beautiful woman: sensuous lines, they feel good when your'e inside them and they cost you a lot of money to maintain. I guess you could call the XKE sorta the "MILF" (Mother I'd Like to F***) of sports cars ( or would it be a "GILF") BTW: About Christine, last I heard she was drivin somebody's Lotus, Gettin Tikits N S**t!
