Default What are the Largest wheels and tires for an '82?

Just for a lark, I'm contemplating changing wheel and tire size. What are the largest wheels and widest tires that will, without modification, fit my 1982 US/AT?

As long as the offset is correct you could run 20's.

Realistically the best wheels for the money are 997 18's & 19's. They fit without any modificatons on any 928.

Quite a few 928's are wearing these (I have a set on my 81):

Or 19's (these are non OEM):

8" backspacing on 9.5 fronts and 11 rears, can fit 275s up front and 295s in the rear. 305s in the rear with some fender rolling and maybe a 1/8" spacer.

Depends on taste and careful fitment.
I find I'm getting increasingly old-school with regard to the former.

these pictures of mine should say it all---no really, these are the largest you can go without serious fender mods:

19 x 8 et 67mm front
19 x 11 et 67 mm rear

997 Carrera and Carrera S with those sizes.

an 18 x 10 will work on the front, but you may have to do some fender work.

a 19 x 10 won't work because of offsets (in a factory Porsche wheel). You'll need to go aftermarket to use this size up front......

see picture below:

No one has chimed in about Andrew's

===> 928 Wheel Fitment Calculator <=== ?

I haven't studied it, but it looks pretty good.

And our Australian mates have also done some pretty cool wheel/"tyre" write ups: http://www.landsharkoz.com/tt/ttwheels.htm

275/30-19 and 305/25-19, about a 25 1/2" diameter and 25"

That's a BIG wheel and a WIDE tire!

Loving the side exit exhaust(s).

Are they down both sides?
That must sound awesome.

Russ-

I'd like to get my calculator to work better with the pre-S4 body style. On the rears, are you running any kind of spacer? Also what brand and aspect tire are you running?
