How far would you go for a alignment?

It is a simple enough question.

If you had some one who had a 928 and was a shop owner how far would you go and how much would you pay for a alignment?
I am not talking about some $50 sears job, but some one who knows the cars and will take the time to not only check for worn parts but will take the care you shark deserves on a alignment?

Our current shop rate is $75 per hour and will go up in the next few months.
I am thinking it should take 1.5-2 hours to look a 928 over and do a first class alignment.

Would you also be more likely to bring your car to that person for other things your car needs and not only the P-cars.

The reason I am asking is that I am thinking of setting up one of my bays to do alignments on Porsche's and a few other high end cars only.

I am wondering if I could come close to breaking even if I did do this.

I think I could get a small % of the 928's in and around the Atlanta area, maybe 20-30 %.

$69.95 but I would be glad to pay up to $100. I don't want to be rude but I think anyone operating a DSP400 machine can do it right.

As far as needed because you will tear up more parts if you don't!

For the owner that doesn't do any of their own maintenance, probably worth $250 to get it done right. This would include checking things over, adjusting ride height, centering steering rack and steering wheel, etc. For the guy that does everything else himself, sets his own ride height, brings in his own alignment specs, etc, then $100 which is what Sears will charge.

I think you are right, almost any one can, the question is will they.
Your answer was not rude, it was what you would pay.

I also do not know of anyone in the Atlanta area that does them on 928's.
If you know of one that is not a Sears or other chain please let me know this also.
I have been in the auto repair biz long enough to know why I do not want to go to Sears or another chain.

I take mine to New Orleans which is just over 400 miles. Cost for the job is between $100-150.

And yes I'd bring my cars there for other things if I felt they knew what they were doing.

That is a very long way, wow.

I am thinking some where in the 130-150 range.

I might do it. Sharpsburg is a bit of a haul for me, but especially if it was part of a tech session (hint hint). It's been a few years, but there used to be a shop that did all the high end cars, called Grand Touring I think. They knew their stuff and did it right, not cheap and along the lines of what you mentioned, but you get what you pay for.

Yea, Sharpsburg is kind of out there, about 5 miles out side of Peachtree City. We may be getting a traffic light next year.

As far as a tech session, this is where I go for tech.
I have the basics and some of the other stuff down on these cars, but I am no expert on them by any means, but I am learning.
I do not mind sharing what I know, or the 928 specific tools I have.
There are more than a couple of folks here in Georgia that have forgotten more about these cars than I know.

Two that I know of are Jack ( I hope I remember his name right) shop foreman at a Atlanta Porsche dealer ship and a 928 owner and Wally.

We work on a lot of different cars, about 60-70% is made in Europe.

I think that is totally appropriate. Considering the cost of ruined tires due to poor alignment, it's a bargain.
