Default Wanted: Parts & Photos of Manual Transmission Coolers

I want to add a cooler for my race car transmission. I am interested in what others have done, ideally with photos and parts lists

Chassis is a stripped 80 Euro S
Transmission is a 90 GT

Any thoughts appreciated, thanks!

Thanks, looks much more complex that I was thinking.

Stan, I am just doing a flow through, where it enters at the front drain plug, and exits at the bottom rear one. There is a 19row cooler on ebay for 119 or so, and a tilton gear oil pump for 185 or so. Some hard line and some AN line, and done. MAYBE a temp sensor, well, probably, set to turn on the pump at what, like 220? 200?

Stan,
PM Louis. He did an awesome job with his. He is a bit preoccupied right now but I am sure he wouldn't mind being distracted.

Stan,

I'll find my parts list, but from memory:

B&M cooler with fan
-10 to metric thread adapters
-10 line
-10 line fittings
tilton/mocal pump

Pull from the front lower drain plug and return to the rear fill plug

It would be nice to have one of the sprayers directed at the center of the LS housing to squirt some oil in there for the spder gears and shafts. Those poor gears and shafts are parched!

That is Jim Page's car (owner of Page Auto - where I take my car). A very similar setup is on my 79 - his previous track car.

IIRC there are some other modifications inside the case I do not have pictures of.

Agree with John with regards to the set-up. The Mocal guy advised on a 13-row cooler placed in front of the main radiator. "Shame" that I bought a pump and then a brand new GTS box, which has the pump built in

Any other options for cooler placement? Perhaps somewhere in the rear and use a naca duct to get air to it from a quarter window?

Stan,

The most obvious place to mount the cooler is in the cavity between the body and the PU. Plenty of space there and you save on lines length. The only problem is that unless you fabricate a duct of some sort you will not be getting much airflow there. I looked into it, but the fact that the place remained completely dry even on the wettest of days tells me that we need to play with the aero in order to make it work.

Lastly, a german 928CS had a cutout in the PU, roughly in the place where the numberplate usually sits to facilitate air flow for its rear mounted transaxle cooler. I, however, was reluctant to play havoc with my only PU and chose to use the conventional mounting point at the front.

HTH,

Alex

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the response.

I do feel a bit ignorant, but I need to ask, what does PU stand for?
