An otherwise good evening with lousy end, when some stupid kid in parking garage throws his car in reverse and backs right into me! I leaned on the horn, my lights were on, garage was well lit, and he hits me anyhow! Said he never saw me:banghead: Do our cars sit too low? Damage doesn't look too bad, but it wil need respray of front cover, and push out of shallow dent in left front fender. :grr::grr:

I am thinking about trying to find a locomotive horn to mount on mine! people just dont see us, though I have less of an issue with a louder exhaust.

If it has front bumper cover damage, wouldn't one have to question who hit who? Traveling at parking garage speeds one would think they could stop for just about anything in a 928... especially if they had time to honk. Perhaps there is a difference between who is at fault and who had an opportunity to avoid the situation. Knowing that our cars sit low and are hard to see means that extra attention should be observed when driving in tight places. If one is sitting still and this happens, then that is a different story.

I use a 130 Db air horn for boating in the front seat and raise it through the sunroof. The directional blast is great!

I was completely stopped, just sitting there behind the kid, as was he - he was waiting for another car to pull out of a space. He threw his car into reverse, and before I could back up too, he hit me. I was about 15 feet behind him. He said he never saw me. Got his insurance info and filed the claim with his company tonite. We'll see what happens....:crying:

A very similar thing happened to me. I was coming around a corner in a parking lot and saw a kid start to back out of a spot. I stopped, but he backed into my car before I could even reach the horn. I filed a claim against his insurance, and when they called him he confessed that he had hit me, hadn't seen/looked. They paid the claim no problem. I'm sure it will be fine.

Mine needed a new bumper cover, a new fender, a turn signal lens, and driving light lens. The estimate was around $7k! I think I got the whole thing done w/ a used fender for somewhere around $3.5k. Repairs cost more than you think.

When Bigs came to pick up his car and was ready to leave, he was sitting in his car and I was standing by the open door. The neighbor across the street came within 18" of taking out the whole driver's side backing up her huge SUV, I was touching the GTS and pounding on her back window at the same time to try and get her to stop. I think Big's heart did stop! Way too close.

That had to have been extremely frustrating. Knowing it's coming and not being able to get out of the way.

Trust me, it will get back to great shape - doesn't sound like any structural damage.

The answer to this question is YES, and no.

In a world of Hummers, Chevy Subdivisions, Expeditions and the like, our cars are below the headlight line. When I first got this car, I thought I was just getting old:) because the headlights all seemed to be on high beam. All of them. Then I realized, the last time I had a car this low was my 280z almost 20 years ago, and before that an old Fiat convertible. At the time though, full-sized vans and trucks were the only 'big' cars. People drove station wagons and vans if they needed more than a 4-door sedan. Now everyone is 5 feet in the air looking around for other SUVs and they look right over our roofline.

+1 on the cell phone/texting/radio issue probably being a factor.

Sorry to hear that, but we should all consider it a warning. Pump your brakes if you're stopped and traffic is approaching from the rear and use that horn.

This is not my fear. I can live through this kind of damage. It is the huge one ton dually or other monstrosity SUV with a bumper height at my eye level approaching from the rear that concerns me. For that reason, and of course some others, I want a roll bar in my car. At least I can escape after the idiot parks his SUV on top of my P car if the monster is sitting on the roll bar. I once saw a Peterbilt drive completely over a Lincoln that had turned out in front of his truck. It was the last turn that Lincoln driver and his passenger ever will experience. Worry about it, or ban these huge SUVs and the soccer moms on their cell phones in them.:soapbox:

I remember driving up the highway in my track 914 (lowered, racing seat bolted to the floor, roof is a good 6" below a 928) following a Ford Excursion. I noticed that I was staring straight at his trailer hitch! That's when I started thinking about it, but I'd rather be in an agile car and avoid accidents if I can. I can't tell you the number of times I have dodged idiots in S-HUGE-VEES who never even knew I was there. I can't stand them.
