85 elec door lock question

85 elec door lock question
On the passenger side of my 85 the door lock goes down and comes back up. I can not lock it. If I lock it from the drivers side it starts to lock but then unlocks while the drivers side is locked. if I lock it from the passenger side. I lock it and it unlocks. If I pudh the lock button inside, the drivers side locks and again the passenger side locks and then unlocks....
I didnt get a chance to rip it apart yet. anyone have any ideas?
It appears to me that the motor turns in the same direction to lock and unlock. it just knows when to stop in the lock position....
