Default Hose rebuilding?

I think I have finally found the source of my trans fluid leak. There is fluid coming from the hose connection where the trans cooler hose is clamped to the banjo fitting. Seems to me this would be a basic rebuild for any hydraulic shop to rebuild both ends. I can rotate the hose at this connection a little. I'm not sure if this is the norm. When I remove this will fluid come out or does the engine have to be running for fluid to flow?

you will loose alittle when you pull that hose. though if you started the engine it would shoot out pretty fast.

Easy rebuild for a shop.

While you're there, your power steering and oil cooler hoses probably could use some attention.

Someone with an AT can confirm but that looks like a return line - ie very little pressure. In which case you can rebuild using stock hydraulic hose of the correct ID and jubilee clips (Hose clamps in American) But if the hose actually has the formed 90 degree bend the WSM pic suggests you may need to change the straight fitting to a 90 degree fitting to just use straight hose.

IIRC NAPA and O'Reilleys used to make these for a reasonable price.

My hose is actually coiled to make the bend. Looks like a stock config to me. I'll just duplicate what is there. I'll try NAPA first as they are just up the road.

Yes my PS hose does need attention. It was leaking from the hose that attaches to the bottom of the res. Hose was hard and cracked. It is a formed U shape and I could not find any hose to make the tight bend without kinking. I have a "temp" fix for now but definately need to make it right. I am trying to avoid having to spring for a factory replacement right now.

There is a note in the WSM that if noise is produced in one of the auto cooler hoses there to use a longer section run in a loop to reduce resonances. Or maybe it was a Service bulletin - anyway, I have seen a pic of a loop there.

I was wary but once I checked with a couple of local hydralic shops and it as stupid cheap to get them rebuilt I got both my oil cooler hoses done for $15! Just brought them the current ones and they completely replicated them with the stock ends.

Well, I had the hose rebuilt. $15.00 at the local NAPA and I still have a leak. Not from the hose, but from the pan gasket. I installed the hose and started the car to check for leaks. It seems to be coming out through the pan gasket seal. I saw some info a while back about an updated pan gasket that is more robust than the stock unit. I am going to stop by the Merc dealer tomorrow and pick one up if they have them. For those who are interested the part # for the updated gasket is 1262711180. The stock part # is 1262711080. This is for the four speed with the six bolt pan. The pic shows the location of my leak. I am getting fluid drops from both sides of the bolt. I have read that if you over tighten the bolts it will ruin the gasket by pinching it. My pan has tabs on it that look like it would not allow this to happen. I hope the new gasket stops my leak.
