944 with 968 motor 127 k should I be looking at this?

Should I be looking at this?

Here is the ad!
Major price cut on my custom Porsche 944 before it goes off to eBay in a few days. Awesome 944 with a 1993 968 3.0L 16valve engine pumping out about 250hp with chip (stock 968 is 235hp). Has a 944S2 5spd transmission, 968 brakes and exhaust, turbo radiator and aluminum control arms(control arm just replaced with factory Porsche parts, not the cheap rebuilt ones on 9/15/07), both timing and balance shaft belts have only about 800 miles on them. This setup offers breathtaking performance with the 968 engine in a slightly lighter car. Front panel was modified for air flow to the K&N intake, similar to the 924 turbo nose, recessed front bumper giving it a euro look. Black leather interior is in very good shape with perfect flawless dash, power seats, windows, and sunroof, cold R134 A/C, cruise control. Anyone looking to build a track car or a weekend car for Porsche DE events? Well look no more, this is a turn key set up which you should not pass up. The engine conversion alone was $10k, it easily would cost anyone twice that amount to build an exact replica of this car. I intended to use it as my track car for autocross and DE weekends but I am upgrading my airplane instrument panel with newer avionics and therefore I am sacrificing the porsche for the upgrade to my plane. Don't let this one get away, she'll blow the doors off a 944 Turbo anyday, it's a sleeper. Email me with any questions. $8300 or best offer by the weekend, then it is off to eBay.

Sounds like a great car to me! This is how the 944 should have came from the get go!

The 3L engine is highly sought after and guys have been dropping these into the '44 series cars for years.

Porsche incorporated several changes in the 951 series to safely handle the the increased power, and this is always one of the frist concerns brought up when someone asks if ti's possible to turbo an NA. Not the exact case here, but the horsepower increase merits more reading.

Maybe even get more info on the person who did the conversion.

$8300 sounds reasonable.

No I'm on the right post wanted to get some feedback on this. The motor was done by a local Porsche shop I'm waiting on the paperwork to call them.

It would run one class below the 85-86 928s ,and S-4 and below the turbo S 944 . It would be classed with 87-89 Carrera ,944 turbo ,Boxsteers....would be a fun car

What Enzo means is the that the 924/944/968 section of Rennlist will have a lot more detailed knowledge about the value of the car as well as the pros/cons of this setup. It's entirely possible that someone there may even be familiar with that car.

Now if you are asking us, the shark-a-holics, if you should get a 4-banger then I must give the only possible answer: take a long test drive.

Also, use the search function for ppl's posts on 928 vs 968 ownership.

buy it, the engine and tranny are worth what he's asking for the whole car
these are a good combo if the conversion was done professionally, great power, the S2 tranny is ideal... would make a GREAT track/street car

I have a buddy with an '87 924 + 968 engine + 968 transaxle. It also has upgraded brakes, suspension, etc - the only bits left 924 is the shell and the dash.

The thing is a BLAST To drive. But don't sell the 928! Keep 'em both!

Whoa. Guess I'll keep my eyes peeled for a 968 to part out then.

Just told the wife I'm getting her a 944 for her birthday this Sunday :icon107:.
That way I get to keep both ;):)

Any shake down I need to do on this I'm going to see it in a few. The replacment was done by a local Porsche shop receipt for 10K.

That will be a fun car. I miss my 951 BIG TIME!

Check condition of CV shafts and boots, and of course the TB/WB needs to be up to date.

Congrats!

Update

I went to look at the car today and it was pretty nice, all the P.O.'s receipts were there. I drove my 928s over and got into the 944 and I felt like I went back in time. The feel, handeling and over all quality was not 1/2 the car of my 928s. It seemed more like a car I would have enjoyed in my 20's but not after owning my 86. I guess I needed to get it out of my system so check the 944s3 of my xmas wish list. :icon107:

Loved my 944- never liked the front "bumperettes",... though

Love the looks & Performance of the 951

Love the looks- not blown away by the 968 performance.

For the same dough, I'd pick up a nice 951 (and I will one day) I doubt that it would "Blow away" most 951's -especially since so many have been at least slightly modified .

fraggle 11-09-2007 10:14 PM

Suspension might need freshening up - he might have spent all the money on the conversion! It will be a fun car, no doubt! IT sounds like you've re-thought the purchase though...

CAreful with that buying b-day presents for the wife method...
