It looks like there were 3663 total 928's produced for the MY 1988, this is total world wide, not just the USA. US totals were 1520.

If my math is correct, that is about 306 per month, which gives us about 77 per week. That's pretty damn cool, until you figure that Ford puts out 100,000 plus trucks a year.

Some of ours were on the line at the same time.

Based on that I was beginning of month and you and Panzer were 2 weeks later. You two were on the line at the same time being w/in 77 cars of one another. Also it looks like I was about the 15th week of production for the 88my. That means some of the first 88my's were in production late july/early august.

Here is what I put together just from the thread, the registry and ebay. Was just playing around trying to see if I couldn't narrow it down just a bit more.

An 1987 wp0jb0926hs862072 was 04/87 ebay Red/Black/Auto
An 1987 WP0JB0926HS862223 was 05/87 ebay Black/Black/Auto so we know that the 88's started sometime after this.

Just to be sure:

is the date on the VIN the date of completion of assembly or the start?

ie............1287

I noticed that on the later VIN cars, that the stamp in the door sill has the month, day, year on them. I was wondering also if that was the "out the door" date or what it actually stood for.

On ours, hell, it could mean anything. I'd like to know how many 11/87's there are out there, and then we could narrow it down to where they went.......... Like, if ROW and US cars were built at the same time, or if they were seperate.

Nice work there michaelathome

We all know that the "new" model years are sent to the dealer lots in July-Aug for the next years runs. So, yes, production dates would be June/July or so. Our '90 has a May date, damn, it's almost a '91 S4.

This stuff is so neat to think about.

I've always considered my car, an '87, 20 years old this year and it was kind of a milestone. Yet it's stamped 9/86. I feel like I missed the big 2-0 now. Damn! Now I have to wait until at least September, 2011...

Ahh Joe, don't sweat it, at least it wasn't your anniversery or the wifes birthday.

Bought my 88 new in October 1977, vin 112, so it must have been built in September.
