Post does any have a clip of MBP only

I'm thinking of buying the RMBP for my 87 S4 and would like to hear what that alone sounds like. Does anyone have a sound clip of that?

Thanks in advance

Tim,

I've just fitted an RMB that came with a used exhaust system that I bought. I don't know who made the RMB but it's a twin tip polished stainless model. The exhaust system is from a MY 88+ which means that it has MUCH smaller mufflers than the 87 so yours may not be as loud. The following MP3 clips are the OEM rear muffler vs. the RMB.

Don't the '87s have larger resonators which make it a bit quieter than other cars with the RMB?

The size difference is dramatic and so is the weight difference. Each side is 8 lbs lighter. Install an RMB and the savings adds up to almost 35 lbs.

The sound is only a little louder with the OEM rear muffler. I don't know about the difference with an RMB. For me, it's a little loud so the 87 center mufflers might be better in that respect.

Thanks for all the help. It's a go I'm calling 928GT and order one. Has anybody had a fitting issue?

I recommend you get someone to hold the RMB tip to keep it centered in the rear bumper cutout while you're tightening everything down. Otherwise, it was a perfect fit.

Mine didn't have any fit problems. In fact the RMB R&R'd easier than the factory muffler.

I always like the sound my RMB provided and the looks on people faces when I would pass by was priceless. Last week I installed a GTS rear muffler on my car in place of the RMB for a road test/trip with the wife. She notice right away the car was much quieter and we both agreed it was an good thing to do for any long trip (Your Ear May Very, YEMY).

Scott, the larger resonator in your pic above is what came out of your 87? Than you switched to the later model S4 resonator and RMB? or Did you leave the 87 resonators on and install the RMB? FWIW both clips sound nice

Max,

That's correct, the large one is the stock left center muffler that came from my car. According to PET5, the smaller one is from a MY 88+. I ran the smaller ones with the stock 87 rear muffler for a while. Only recently, did I install the RMB. I did not run the RMB with the stock center mufflers.

How does the GTS rear muffler differ from an earlier one? I'm looking for something in between stock and RMB.

I have a stock S4 Rear Muffler (and cat.), but I have not installed it yet. Once I get a little time I am hoping try different combos. I am wondering what the larger resonators would sound like with the RMB or the GTS muffler?

Keep in mind I made Glass Packs out of my original cats (major surgery) a long time ago. This upped the DBs a little and changed the tone (better than with the cats just gutted).

With the GTS Rear Muffler it still has a low rumble at idle (real clean) and you can still here a little of the exhaust, but more of the motor when you have your foot in it.

I will try to do a wav. of it in the next day or so and post it.
