Default Floor & Trunk Mats

I am looking at various sources of floor mats. One of my concerns is getting the right material. The current mats are made of a very soft material which is quite unlike most other car carpet.

Of the people that have replaced their mats have you been able to get a matching type of material?

Thanks
Sean

Lloyd's mats are the way to go. I believe that they were the original supplier to Porsche. I've compared the material and the color to 'oem' Porsche mats, and in my case, the color of the Lloyds mats was closer than the oem Porsche mats when ordering from the oem Porsche interior colors. The Lloyd's material/quality was every bit as good - if not a bit better.
You can specify the factory color of your interior and select custom embroidery w/specific colors, if you prefer.
The place to get Lloyds mats is 928 Specialists.

Hey, Sean - how's it goin'. Haven't seen you around for awhile.

I also got a nice set of LLoyd's mats from 928 Specialists.

A perfect match with my interior colour.

Sean, if you decide to go w/embroidery (a good choice, IMO) many people go with the exterior color of their car as embroidery thread color. If you aren't set on your exterior color, ask Dave or Jeannie for their opinion as to what thread color(s) look the best with your color. I'm sure that they've seen numerous combinations.

I didn't want to start a new thread for my simple question so I'll ask it here. My apologies in advance if this has been covered before as I looked and couldn't uncover it.

I'm sure my floor mats are no different than anyone else who has an S4 or later year model, but I haven't seen anyone comment of the fit of after market pieces. Specifically, my floor mats have a thick (1.5"), foam backing with ridges that are unlike other cars I've owned. These ridges in the foam correspond to the ridges in the floor board and serve to insulate road noise. There is no carpet under the floor mat; just the metal floor. I'm wondering how well these after market floor mats (Lloyd's) fit against the uneven/ridged surface of the floor board; since I'm assuming they are thinner and flat on the bottom. I didn't want to pay for something that didn't fit flat on the floor. My mats are OK, but I'd prefer to update them as the vinyl edges are starting to crack and malform.

Thanks,
Nicholas

Sounds like you are missing the factory carpeting, Nicholas?

The carpeting has a foam backing. The mats have a smooth rubberized back.

Does Lloyd offer color matched binding for the mats. I dont see it at all in their ordering form not that would get it. But to have the binding material match the piping color would be cool for those that have a different piping color on their seats.

Randy;
The carpet goes just slightly under the floor mats all the way around and stops; exposing the metal floor. There is no adhesive on the metal floor suggesting that carpet was installed there. The floor mats (all 4) have a heavy, dense foam attached that fit into each groove of the floor board. These mats appear to be factory. If there were carpeting under these mats the foam grooves wouldn't be able to fit into the floor board channels. This was originally a Canadian car so I'm not sure if that has any bearing or not.

Is my car different from most of your folks out there then?

I would take pics, but the car isn't with me as it is at the repair shop.

Thanks,
Nicholas

Ryan, from what I understand you can have them do just about anything, short of putting the Porsche Crest on.

Interesting, Nicholas.

The carpet attaches to the floor with threaded plastic fasteners that pass thru the carpet and screw into the floor. Under the carpet is bare metal.

The mats lay on top of the carpet.

I suppose you could be some sort of custom carpet/mat you have.

Give 928 Specialists a call tomorrow - they'll know. The link to their site is at the top of this forum.

Is the passenger side have cover with a button attached to it that covers the computers? If so that is the carpet not the mats.

The mats/carpets that I am referring to have a thick (1.5") padding underneath where they meet the metal floor that is a dense, black foam; except for the continuous flap that covers the fuse panel board on the passenger side which has a thinner, black mastic material underside. These mats/carpets are contoured like you'd expect a floor mat to be and even features matching vinyl piping all along its border (unlike the other carpet pieces in the car). There are threaded plastic anchors that come through holes in these peices (front only) near the seats that are held in place with a large black female threaded cap. They also connect to some sort of hook at the top of the fuse panel to keep them from falling down the steep angle of the fuse box.

So is what I'm talking about the carpet or the floor mats? They seem so mobile and aren't glued down like you'd expect carpets to be in the traditional sense.

Thanks for your help guys.

Lloyd's mats are slightly oversized. This was done on purposefor a cleaner look.
