Need Sunroof Adjustment Help
OK...I surrender.
I have installed the new seal on my sunroof (1982) and
have spent 2 nights trying to adjust the way the roof opens and closes.
Problem:
I have set the closed height at all four corners to fit flush with the roof.
Looks great when closed. To check it, I had re-installed the liner. When
opening the sunroof with the liner installed, it opens and closes slowly,
needing a helping hand otherwise it stops in the middle. I have checked the
motor and trans...they work fine. When I do use my hand to close it, the
roof does not close all the way. ADDITIONALLY, I am getting scratches at the
rear of the sunroof from the upper cross member inside. I have adjusted this
dang thing about 20 times and still can't seem to: 1) get it to open and
close freely without hand help. 2) get to close flush at the rear of the
roof. I can get it flush when I push up with no liner in the close cycle,
otherwise it sags. 3) eliminate the scratching at the rear without the roof
sagging in the rear corners.
As for the adjustment screws, the 2 screws per side that adjust the rear of
the roof are a little tricky. They screw into a bracket that runs in the
track. The rear most screws are pulled down to the bottom of the roof tab
loop and the forward most screws can be set to the top of the tab, but I
believe that is where the scratching is coming from since the rear of the
roof drops when it opens, and these forward screws set the ride height while
retracting back.
Is either rail pinching somewhere causing the roof to strain during
operation? Is there a trick to setting the front flat head adjustment screws
in the black rail so that the rear adjustment screws perform their funtion
better? Why is the liner making the roof work slow, is it the liner causing
the problem?
I have tried several different ways of adjusting this thing and it AIN'T
WORKIN! HELLLPPPP!!!!!!

Three Wheelin'
HI.
My slow closing sunroof was caused by the liner being too low and the bolts for the carriers on the rail were loose causing the sunroof to not be pushed up all the way when the cariers got to the closed position. I pushed up on the roof when closed, tightened the bolts with locktite, and re-installed the liner with the front liner brackets up all the way. Sunroof now closes great and the front and back are flush woth the roof when closed.
I also lubed everything and tightened the motor mounting bolts which were loose causing the motor to flex under strain.
Does your sunroof get scratched without the liner in place?
