I figure it's 78-79s, pre L-Jet and pre S.

it may have started as "old bugger" ie; cis only but it seems as a majority its become "old body" so i would say anything befor the "S" spoiler group.

Lets say you have an OB front bumper or rear hatch for sale..most will know what you mean.

I like to think of my 80 as an old boy, don't know why. It has certainly been buggered over the years, but it still has that little something that seems to be missing in other cars. The first Porsche I ever purchased, it may be the last one I part with. It has reached solid runner status, and I find great satisfaction in objects where the value of utility exceeds the actual monetary worth. Vroom, Vroom.

Why not use the euro designation, SI, SII, SIII? That still covers '78-'86. And OB is '78-79 only, at least that's what it was when it was first used.

As a newcomer I actually assumed that "OB" stands for "Old Body" (pre-S4 style) .

OB = Pre-S4.

The body change and change to 32v is a huge distinction.
