Was that the Bentley Contintal 550 horsepower/690 ft-lbs or the Phaeton 450/400 version?

How about the latest VW Engine - a V10 Turbo-Diesel with 313 HP and 750 Nm of torque at 2,000rpms?

This engine is bound to change some old fashioned perceptions about Diesel, when it will be available in the upcoming VW Touareg SUV (the sister of the Cayenne). Thanks to it's incredible torque, this one could beat any S4, and in many situations even the GTS.

Rumors have it that Porsche is considering to create a sporty version of this engine for the Cayenne - at least for the European markets, where gas is a lot more expensive than bottled water.

The modern turbodiesels are amazing - too bad we don't see more of those in the US. Opinions here are still shaped by old fashioned truck engines, that are loud, slow, and blow lots of black smoke. Hardly anybody seems to realize the "fun" potential of those modern engines!

If you ever have a chance to try one of the Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7-Series, or Audi A8 Turbodiesels, be prepared to get addicted to torque! You won't see any smoke coming out of the exhaust, and the engine sound will no longer remind you of the Diesels you have known... Oh, even though you might not care, gas mileage on these is sensational. You can drive 600 miles without refueling!

Keep an open mind, and try one of them, when you get a chance! If you ever drive on the German Autobahn, don't be surprised if a Tubodiesel passes you at 150mph...
