Fuel Injector interchangability ???
 

OK. Here's my idea. I recently had to replace an injector in my 81'.L-Jet. The darn thing cost me $70.00. I know the expensive cost of parts is all part of 928 ownership.But why spend it if you don't have to. I am assuming that the injector in my 81' isn't unique to that car. So how would one go about finding out what other vehicles used the same injector as my 928. It would be nice to be able to go to the wrecking yard and collect a surplus of used injectors to have spares or complete a matched set. I was thinking possible doners may be found in Mercedes, BMW,Volvo, Audi, and any number of injected cars. The owner of an injection shop I did business with says that the Bosch injector in my 928 is pretty common. Any one else think this way or am I just nuts. ;)

Question, are your injectors loud? I can hear my easily over my engine and other noises, even with the hood closed.

Have you tryed looking into Ford injectors. I don't know if I rember there beeing some interchangeability, or not.

Jim, K-Jet or L-Jet? PET tells me that it is K-Jet, but I thought electronic injection was around in '81. If it's K-Jet, they're everywhere...911SC, VW Fox, Audi 5000S. Check out <a href="http://www.928gt.com/928tips/Fuel.htm#Injectors" target="_blank">928 Specialists</a> for their opinion.

If it's L-Jet, the low impedence injectors used in our early cars were only used in the 928, so rebuilding is the way to go.

VU - L-Jet and LH-Jet injectors are famous for being clacky. There is interchangability with some of the hi-po Ford injectors for later models; somone on-list did this successfully.

An excellent shop to look up is Cruzin Performance for injector service, and I know they can get a hold of almost any injector for cheap. I had my injectors serviced, had 1 injector body cracked. For about $20.00 I received the injector, and he ensured they were matched pretty close to each other.

Mine on my 83, with the L-Jetronic are noisy as all get out. I've tryed running injector cleaner through them, but all it seems to do is make it louder!

LH but not L-jet have a bit of interchangeability if Ford Hi po injectors?

The only other car I have found with compatible K jet injectors is the K-jet version of the Peugeot 505. With L and LH I suspect the list is much bigger however. EG, there are GM injector part numbers that will fit my LR DIsco, Range Rover etc. Also fuel pumps, pressure regulators etc.

I have a small xl sheet with bosch equivalent data across several makes if anybody is interested in it. Its basically a list of Peugeot part nos and models, but lists other makes that used the same stuff, and there is some 928 in there.

VU - Depends on the impedence. For my '83, each injector test spec is 2-3 ohm resistance [er injector. Later cars went to 10+ ohm resistance - I'm not sure where the break was. Porsche TSB 28503 MAY 85 has the correct MYs, but I don't have the text with me.

If you can find Bosch-style injectors in the low impedence and the appropriate flow rate, please let me know. I have not been able to find another car using the injectors for my year - impedence matching I have done, but I can't find impedence + correct flow rate.

the early low impedance injectors could be hard to get. for my 88 i just bought the 5.0 mustang injectors. $225 for 8...

I would look up Cruzin on the web. He can provide different manufacturers, and sizes. It's worth a call to save a few bucks.

thanks for the input guys. Maybe I will try going to the parts house and see if they have a way to look up other vehicles that use the same part # as my 928 uses. I'll post the results. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />
