I know you mentioned doing a quilted look for the 928 seats. I have always prefered pleats myself. Can you make something like the following with the 928 seat frame. I would imagine you would need to change the padding on the center inserts on the seat base and the backrest to make it look correct, but could you make a cover that looked like this?

Could you also then make something that would work for the rear seats, they would have to match. I see the rear being more of a problem because it gets wider the lower the seat goes, but perhaps you run the pleats down the width of the back portion of the rear sear, and then when it widens out you just have it solid to contrast the pleats of the center section.

This is the Bugatti seats, but I remember the BMW E39 M5 from 1999-2004 had an option of luxury seat that also had these type of pleats.

I am sure you can do something like this, my question would be how much more over do you think it would cost. I would think the actual cover would be less work, as you dont need to make a bunch of pillows so to speak, but you would have additional expense in changine out the foam on the seat.

Take a look. Another thing I would like to do is update the door panel insert. I am looking at ways to not make that look so old.

I couldnt find a pic of the bugatti's seats, but i posted some from the M5. The bugatti has uneven sized pleats and the seam in the pleats is a different color which really contrasts nicely on their lighter colored seats. I would love to have the majority of the seat beige and instead of pleasts, cut the leather and sew it back up with a strip of black leather to contrast it. The black strips would have to be very small and when the seat is un occupied the black strip would only be maybe 1/8" thick

I will try and find some pics of what i am talking about should this idea even be possible. If its really too much work and doubles the cost of the seat covers, I will be fine with the standard seat look.

those arent very good pics. Maybe someone can get a 928 seat from head on and photo shop it with pleasts down the center. Or I may just consign this idea to my brain for the time being

Hey Ryan,

what you describe is all possible. The Recaro frame used in the 928 and the 911 of the same era (944 family also) is really open to a world of possibility.

The style you are showing is and was, very popular with Hot Rodders.
Your two-tone approach is also feasible, but I would not describe it as "less work" though

Paul,

I am trying to come up with a two tone dash concept that would work its way into the door panels. Trying to use the lines of the dash to best effect. I am still probably going to try and just redye my seats for now. If i do go ***** out and get the seats retrimmed I would probably do something different. And in a different shade. But the more i think about this stuff, the more I think I should just stick with the black leather for the pod, dash, armrests, and center console. I need to find some more money.

Do you have some nappa like leather you can use for the dash and pod and everything else on my list? I dont like the grainy stuff, I would like something with a very uniform texture to it. If not could I supply you with the leather and have you make the patterns and do the sewing and installing?

Paul will indeed blow your mind. My black with red stitching seats (to match the pod, wheel, and shifter) just came today and I'm taking a break from the install (new post with pics forthcoming). Not trying to hi-jack your post but Paul offered a couple of options that I didn't do, but some others may prefer. One option was Alacantra inserts. If you can imagine it, Paul can do it.

Ryan--

Makes more sense to talk now, let the work go on while you're gone, come home to a masterpiece. IMO, anyway...

Bob,

Great point, I was just thinking the same thing after my last post. I should pull my dash, my pod is already out, take the center console out, pull the door armrests which i have to do anyway to mount the new speaker crossovers and wiring. I could just drive all the stuff up to Paul and when i get back have it all ready to go.

I just dont have that much money in the bank to pull the trigger on that one yet, and I dont imagine Paul has a lay away plan just yet. Do ya?

On big-ticket projects like this, I call that the "lay awake" plan. That's when I lay awake wondering what's going to happen when she sees the bill...
