Desperately need help - fuel pump issue
Here's the story:
Car was running great. One day, I hear some periodic buzzing from the back, but car still running fine. Next day, I start the car...it runs great for 30 seconds, then dies. Car won't start anymore.
I first did the obvious, and checked and replaced the fuel pump fuse. No dice. Replaced the fuel pump relay. No dice. Replaced the fuel pump today with brand new Bosch unit....still nothing. The pump is absolutely silent. Jumpered pins 30/87 ... still nothing.
Car is a '79. There is a pump in the tank, and an exterior pump. I replaced the exterior pump. I've got to assume that the pump in the tank is original and long dead. I am totally dumfounded right now!
Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!!

I keep a 12 Volt dry cell battery in the garage to test things like this.

Check for 12V at 30 on the FP relay connector. If there is power, jumper the FP relay again 30-87 and go check for power and ground at the FP posts. Ground is the brown wire. The inside FP is fed from a pair of wires off the external FP posts. If no ground, check the ground point which I think is under the right rear inside panel - remove a few screws that hold it on at the rear and pull it away from the body. You should see the ground point. If no power, there is a break in the harness.

Sometimes new parts do NOT work...not very often but it is nice to KNOW that the pump is GOOD ! trouble shooting does require a logical sequence to be effective BUT you can usually start at either end .
