The diameter of the shaft is the issue. The airbag wheels have a 944 part number and the smaller diameter. The none airbag 930S wheel as I recall has the correct diameter BUT MEASURE both the wheel hub I D and shaft OD of your car and the wheel you plan to buy....

the 930S wheel is pretty nice.
I was going to say not to look for a 928 specific airbag wheel but to look for a 993 964 wheel. The 964 uses what appears to be the same wheel, but they maybe offset differently.
The airbag wheel is not really a nice wheel, but i do like it allot more then the 89's 4 spoke wheel. I love my 90 cause they really did update the interior's dash when they did the airbags.

Syed,
is there a particular reason why you want an airbag wheel?
If it's just because your original wheel as seen better days, it can be restored quite easily and can look really nice.

Syed,
I have a perfect '94 GTS bag with an airbag. IF you want to fit another airbag wheel on a 928 with airbag, then the 993/996 airbag wheels will fit. Need a very slight modification to the hub of the wheel, a "clock spring" from a 993/996, and a new ground connection from that clock spring to chassis ground, along with a bit of "carving" on the plastic cover between the wheel and dash on the 928 is all. I have a '996 twin turbo 3 spoke wheel in leather/wood on my '94 GTS.

Gary-
I recall lusting after your wheel at some point in the past, where did you pick it up, and what sort of mods did it require to fit to your '94? Champagne's recent posts are really trying my purist sensibilities......

Rob,
I bought an all leather '996 twin turbo wheel in leather with airbag off either Rennlist or eBay, then found the wood/leather wheel only on Rennlist. Sold the all leather wheel, keeping the airbag. The wood/leather wheel was blue leather, so I died it black, using ColorPlus leather dye (which is the best I've found for match and durability).
To install the wheel, you need to have ~5mm milled down into the hub, so the fastening nut from the 928 will fit on the threaded splined hub. You also need a 993/996 "clock spring" which replaces the horn piece behind the OE 928 wheel. You will need to attach the ground wire from this to a ground on the 928 chassis. And, part of the plastic that surrounds the hub between the dash and the OE 928 steering wheel will need to be cut away. As I recall that is all. I ALWAYS leave the battery disconnected for at least 24 hours before I remove the airbag steering wheel on any 928.
There are pictures on the 944 Rennlist Forums site, as I recall - a guy there did it first with the 993/996 3 spoke wheel.

PS: I may have the pix, send me an e-mail and I'll respond if I can find them.

Whaat I always do to drain any residual electricity is to hit the breaks pedals for a few sec and that's it. When the breaks are applied the lights are triggered and any electrical power in the system will be used up by it.

IMoOOO,
I guess I'm a bit paranoid about the air bags!!!! 24 hours gives 24 to 48 times the probability that there is no residual charge to activate the bag. Cost of replacing a bag is pretty high, and I don't want the explosion in my face as I'm in the process of removing it. Old slogan of "Safety First". And, I do this sort of thing in the off season when the car is not being driven anyway.

I have a wheel and bag from a 944 and a 964. I know the 944 and 964 wheels are different, were the 928 different yet. If not and either of these work I will be happy to let one go cheap.
