funny you should say that! I was just helping scot with his today when we changed his water pump . this looks like the driver side timing belt cover that we couldnt get over the powersteering pump feed line bolt and this picture reminds me of that part that was holding us up. But no, thats not it.

Definitely the sway bar mount. I reinforced mine to prevent that!

You guys got it!

Actually, the reinforcement is usually just a bar at the bottom to keep the bolt attachment point from breaking free . this was a 80mph impact hitting a birm on the driver side exit of the last turn at thunderhill. we welded it up, but got airborn again on the way home, if you can imagine it, on hyway 280, again about 80mph. it tore up the relatively weak welds .

928 international has a new mount on the way from germany as we speak.

hope we can find some room to get some welds on it. passenger side would be a piece of cake. the driver side is ugly . we may have to get creative, and will be boxing the structure in too!

there was a dip in the road near foothill college, and at the last second i saw it coming and there was nothing i could do but do a quick tap before the dip, when we landed, it was like the entire bottom of the car landed on the pavement! my buddy hurt his neck, and i felt sick afterwards!
i have some new design patterns in the oil pan too!

the original break off was strattling the turn 14 birm at Thunderhill.

I'll venture that a piece of steel channel or maybe some creatively-sculpted box tubing would be better than the factory bracket. A foot of 2x8x.120, a sawzall, a drillpress, and a few minutes with the MIG would do the trick a little better than the factory piece does.

If i was still in LA, i would be over to your garage with dinner, or a bottle of your favorite wine to see this creation come to life!!

I think we are going to try and modify the factory piece when it comes in to fit. then, box it in for some additional strength.

I have some time. next race is labor day weekend

BTW, i was out today with out a swaybar, and man, the car is turney! almost scary handling. however, it does have a lot of lean, especially when sawing at the wheel at freeway speeds. I think im going to take some swaybar adjustment out for my first race of the weekend. and then go back to full stiff for the 2nd race and see how it works. Since im at sears and the BMWs are so good there, maybe thats part of my disadvantage. Ill try it during a practice session and see how it goes.

Less stiffness (or bar) at the front would increase oversteer.....so that makes sense....I would guess that at race pace you will be very loose......BUT what about cranking up the rear wing to plant it more???? Worth a try?
