I sent a message to ebay that essentially asks if they condone the use of their site to conduct illegal activities. I elluded to the likelihood that the manuals in question may very likely be illegal copies of a copyrighted set. If in fact the manuals are copies, and ebay allows the sale to continue, they put themselves in the position of acting as a 'fence' for illegal trade.

I'll let you know their response (if I get one).

Worse than that.... Susan just called from DEVEK, and the real manuals are now in.

I have been down this road with ebay with several sellers and I am here to say that they have not and will not do jack. As someone said above, they only concern themselves with collecting fees. They do not make their money on buyers. I would not even trust their feedback forum because I have seen that manipulated before as well. Let it be known, Ebay is not going to protect the buyer in any instance. Protect yourself by using credit cards when you can, postal money orders in all other instances and stay away from accounts with Paypal. They are now owned by ebay and have a very jaded past including federal investigations that are on going. Thank god for forums like this. Too bad the moderators cover for certain "friends". That being said, I still buy small ticket items off of ebay and have had pretty good luck.

Jack:
Unfortunately, if the high bidder refuses to buy the item, the seller can offer it to the next highest bidder or the next - and so forth. It's in the best interest for the seller and ebay to have a sale go through.

On ebay, the pharse "Caviat Emptor" should be prominantly displayed in large-bold type.

O.K...so to follow up on that then. If the item goes to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and so on then lets all bid on and then not pay based on discovering he’s previously committed fraud. EBAY can't refute a bidder backing out after discovering that a seller has previously committed fraud under another alias. Right?

And by all means, I would guess Shackle**** is watching this thread. Wonder if his soon-to-be ex is looking for her coffee maker. Boy, I’d like to have that unit.

Ed

I get what your saying, Ebay take days to look into something and this may well slip through
if he goes to down to the 6th highest bidder!! not that this is the answer.

At the end of the day Ebay still need a valid credit card for a seller account and if they cross check his card he will come up under a number of accounts with problems.

If only....

If a seller wants to be a real sleaze-bag he/she could have multiple identities and credit card accounts with ebay, and as long as he also has different addresses, they'd not find him/her out till it's way-too-late.

Fortunately for us, this particular seller does not appear to be too bright, since he's posted a photo with his name and address on the invoice.

It seems to me that the best recourse for those who have been burned by this guy is to contact the Texas State Attourney in the Consumer Fraud division, and have him prosecuted. After all, you now have his address, so it should be a no-brainer to track him down.

Mr. Elgin, kindly stick it in your ear.

The 'moderator' (that would be me) does not 'cover for certain friends'. Feel free to email me directly if you would like to further discuss the burr you appear to have under your saddle.

Question

Sorry Randy. Nothing personal! I am just a big consumer advocate and hate to see people get taken. These sorts of forums are one of the few remaining outlets for the consumer. Our government allows merchants free reign to manipulate, misrepresent and steal from the consumer without conscience.90% of the time, the consumer has no affordable recourse. Believe me, I know. My wife has a degree in Consumer Economics, and is a practicing attorney. They do not need help from you by censoring warnings about questionable business experiences. If not here, where Randy?

Sure sounded personal .

The only things I *generally* try to keep a lid on are inappropriate language, SPAM and breakdowns in civility and decorum.

1500.00+ for the manuals this a.m. Looks like the Posse at work. Tar and feathers would be a little more fun, though.......
