Hibeams / foglights- strange activity
I own a '85 S with less then 40k miles. I luv the car but have found some strange electrical things starting to occur. The high beams will sometimes kick on but other times will not. Engaging the high beam switch (pushed outward) ends up engaging the foglights. This is the same regardless of the foglight switch position. Can anyone lend some thoughts here?

Do you have the stock headlights, or have they been upgraded to any of the "more powerful" or "brighter" lamps?

I have upgraded the stock (with chrome ring)lamps to the european version, also having higher wattage?

General rule - Anytime that the electrics start doing weird things, check the ground connections.
It is possible that the current from the headlamps can't get to ground (bad ground connection) and is feeding back thru the foglamps. Since the filaments on the foglamps are smaller than the ones in the headlamps, the foglamp filaments are limiting the current flow, keeping the headlamps from glowing brightly. When this happens, look closely at the headlamp filaments, and see if they are glowing a dull red - if so, clean the ground connections. |
