Alert: I found an EXCELLENT Wheel Cleaner!!!!!!!
I've no affiliation. But, I do spend a lot of time cleaning my wheels. In fact, the car can look OK, except for a spritz of quick-detail, but the wheels being dirty will cause me to wash the whole car on a regular basis.
I hate dirty wheels. The pads I have on my 928, I think they're Mintex, put out an ungodly amount of dust. I waxed the 10 spoke wheels with Mequiar's NXT Tech Wax paste on the wheels prior, which did almost nothing as I still need to get in with a brush to get it all off.
Until now, that is.
Last week, I was walkng thru Lowe's and went past their growing collection of automotive chemicals and cleaners. I spotted a 32oz bottle of Dupont "Teflon" Wheel Cleaner. I've tried all of the others, why not try this one-Dupont has a good name in chemicals.
Their instructions talk about the self-scrubbing foam that allows you to watch grime and brake dust dissolve away. I've read it before, so I was very sceptical with my moderately dirty wheels. Guess what, the stuff did flush the crud off. I sprayed the hell out of the wheels, getting the inside parts of the rim, never lifted a brush, and simply hosed off my CLEAN wheels. The other thing is that the cleaner leaves a film of Teflon to inhibit more dust sticking. After a week, I'd concur and state that the wheels are 1/10 as dirty as they would've been prior to now.
At any rate, a wheel cleaner that actually works. BTW, no warnings as to not using on certain finishes. In fact the directions say to spray on the tire and wheel, and that it won't harm paint.

I've found that steel wool with a little muriatic acid always worked best for me. It will take just about any grime off.
Sorry, I'll go back to my room now.
Indeed, I'll be checking the product out myself. Thanks for the heads up.

WOW....I use simple green which really doesn't do much.....but it didn't stain my old polished flats like other wheel cleaners did.....99% of the cleaning comes from the brush....
928's do make ALOT of brake dust..... I'm gonna give this a try!

It's all about convenience here.
BTW, I've got the same BBS wheels that I use at the track on my 911, but they don't get near as dirty with the Pagid Blues I'm running on it. I don't know if it's the compound or what, but the 928 is the big problem in this arena.
Bill: Thanks, that's the pic!

I'll check it out, but I'm always worried about using just about anything on the anodized wheels. Usually if you clean i off quickly you are fine, how long does it need to stay on the wheel to do it's magic?

30 seconds is what directions state...I'd say I let it sit a minute, and as mentioned initially, I sprayed a second time liberally to clean the inner parts of the wheels, which REALLY blew me away.
