Brendan & Mike,
I have a friend that owns a domestic cam company (but he has an open mind to imports or anything related to cam technology) that I've been talking to for a while to come up with a light 'solid' follower that not only wouldn't require a shim but also wouldn't require disturbing the cams to adjust but it's a ways away from completion. He went over the cams I bought from Phil Threshie for me to insure safe & proper use in my stroker. We spoke at length about making solids a practical option for 928 owners & he was willing to help. I'm almost to the CAD drawing stage but it's gonna be awhile. How much time ya got?

I'd say at least a year or more. By then I will be bored with whatever I have completed and driven daily. I always gotta be moving.

Damn, a man after my own heart!
That timeline works for me. I really didn't intend to mention my quest to make a practical solid lifter for our cars until I got closer to a prototype. But hearing your plight I felt a surge of sympathy for your problem & I thought I'd enlighten you on the vast corners of my mind from whence 928 mods come from.

Nice. I have the crank. I have the 89 thicker heads, and they will get a full treatment of big valves, big springs, and whatever else I can think of. Big ports, etc. I will now have the "correct" dampener. I need a "big" block and the rest will fall into place. Well, of course, the car needs to be stripped and painted and the S4 stuff needs to be put on, but thats...uh... minor.

And thats just my hobby.

Hello to the post:

our company tried coating high polished shafts with 2 companies

balsers oerlikon, link posted in the previous post

and with Intellectual Alliance in Canada www.dlc-coating.ca

we were much better satisfied with results from Intellectual Alliance. The shafts have already worked 3 times longer.

I talked with the Balzers representative and he told me usually they do not have good results with high polished surfaces, since their process used sputtering and the small particles need to adhere to the surface which is a problem with high polished surfaces.

I have also talked with Intellectual Alliance and they told me high polished surfaces isn't a problem since they use other method of dlc, something like growing of the amorphous DLC crystal in vaccum at lower 150C temperatures, smart me , and for them it is even better if the surface is polished, because customers are much more happier with overall results.

Prices were lower as well with Intellectual Alliance, overall we are satisfied with the results for the DLC coated shafts and will do again with them.

Terry
