More K&N stuff
First, I have found many bugs and debris past the OEM filter. This is due to a poor design on Porsche's part. There should be no way for operator error when installing the filter. Porsche must have known so they put a screen!
Second, I have several vehicles with K&N filters, but that was before I read this:
<a href="http://www.desertsundirectsales.com/k&nbitesthedust.htm" target="_blank">http://www.desertsundirectsales.com/k&nbitesthedust.htm</a>
I will think twice about using OILED GAUSE filters in the future. Less restriction=more dirt? My 928 engine has only 170K on it so it is just broken in. I need to ensure that it stays nice and tight.

Yesterday went to the local Porsche dealership to pick up a friend (Porsche Tech) for lunch. He was having a discussion with a National Service Engineer from Porsche. They were discussing the damage caused by a K&N filter on an '02 Carrera. The filter not only had negative effects on fuel components but there was also an abnormal amount of grit in the oil which they determined was causing exsessive wear internally. I know this is the great debate but again I must ask, Are the "actual" HP gains worth this risk? Personaly, NO WAY!

To add some more independant testing that doesn't have any financial interest either way:

Abby,
What kind of filter are you using on your supercharger? I'm upgrading from a Paxton to an ATI Procharger, more boost, on my 560 SEC and would like to know the different supercharger filter options.

All,
Bring up Yahoo, or, I suppose any other search engine.
Type in: K&N air filter test,
You can read the good and bad all day long.
Being informed is a good thing.
Your car, your dime, your choice.
I still use the K&N.

Three Wheelin'
Replaced my K&N with a Porsche original one today. First thing I noticed was that the airbox straps fit tighter with the OEM than with the K&N. Plus the orange color is cool.

Going to use an oil free filter system for Greddy cold air intake systems. Here's a link..
