Stereo Wiring Question
Hi,
I have an 82 928 and the PO installed an Kenwood CD/stereo. Since the CD player doesn't work, I'm gonna replace it w/Blaupaunkt I bought.
The other day I came out and the stereo/analog clock/interior lights were out. I replaced the fuse (8A)and it blew immediately. After researching Nicols site, I believe it may be my overhead light shorting on the frame. Anyways, I want to rewire the power of the stereo OFF this circuit and I see no fuse or wiring for this in the Porsche Manuals. Is this the correct installation? Can anyone tell me the what circuit/fuse I should tap into for install? I would like the radio to power-on with the ignition switch.
Thanks in advance..

The stereo installation needs two power sources - a constant-on (bus 30) source to maintain the memory and settings, and a switched (bus 15) source to actually power the system. Both of those are used in the stock system, and probably were used for the Kenwood.
The guess on the interior light circuit sounds good - that is a common problem.

Does your "door open" chime keeping ringing? When I had a short to my overhead light, that chime drove me nuts until I fixed the short (in addition to the clock issues you are describing). The short was a result of wires in the overhead light making contact with the metal in the roof. The plastic housing on that light had cracked. A new light housing and everything was perfect again.
The short I experienced did not blow the fuse. It was intermittant with bumps in the road.
Hope that helps (at least with the short).
