Default How the Heck Does the Lighted Keyhead Come Off?

I spent most of today replacing the alternator in my Volvo. My knuckles are skinned and my back is killing me. You need a PhD to put those serpentine belts back on,and there's really no online community for them like this one to go to for help. Anyway, I've about run out of patience. I also got a new lighted head for my Porsche key today. How do you get the old one off? I can break it off, but I always hate to destroy things if I really don't have to (except for Volvos). There's a little springy thing that looked like it has something to do with holding the ky in, but I popped it out and no difference. In the mood I'm in, I might hit it with a hammer unless someone can help me out!

The head is a push on, pull off. Twist the blade of the key along the narrow axis as you pull on the head. One of the two "prongs" sticking into the head has a hook on it.

Not exactly the specific info that you were seeking, but I hope that it will still be useful:

This image probubly shows the mechanism for locking the key in the best. Once you get the key open, on the top right of this image you can see a "slider" holding back a spring, use a tack or needle or some other small object to take the slider out, the spring will go pop and your key will be free of the head. Now try putting it all back in again.

Good luck.

I wouldn't twist.

THere is a plastic tongue that is pushed by a tight spring into a channel cut into the key steel. If you pry that plastic back up outwrad from where it is pushed by the spring, you can pull the key out.

I hear ya' Elmko, I've seen the pics and read the searches how they quote "pop out"...

Heinrich, can the batt cover be removed to pry the plastic back out to disengage the key steel, or is there a tab under the plastic that has to be disengaged before it pops out?
