Talking I need a donor cat for an 84 us car.....!

I am going to send it to random technology to re-create it in a hi-flow version. I am looking for a stock cat for an 84 that I can beg, steal or borrow, or buy for an incredibly low price. It will benefit all us early car owners in need of a bolt in replacement alternative

Also the price quoted was about the same as a bolt in replacement cost!

Please Help

Fletch,
A new high-Flow Cat runs for less than $60.00... just drop your exhaust at the header
flange and cut/weld up the new one.

You also need to adapt an air fitting and an o2 sensor fitting. What about where the downpipes enter the stock cat (an obvious pinch). Looking to improve on the overall package. It is a little more involved than bolting/welding a new cat, especially to retain all smog equipment.

Fletch,
First cut is aft of the 'Y'.Problem #1 eliminated.
When welded to the new High-Flow Cat. forward nipple it also becomes the mount point for the Air tube mount flange. Then they simply drilled a slightly oversized hole on a flat approximately midpoint, cleaned it up and welded the tube to/into the Cat. Some cats have an extented air tube nipple. They said; " on larger Cat's with more unsupported surface area they weld the tube to a correct ID washer with a huge OD surface area to prevent cracking then weld the washer to the pre-drilled CAT. Problem #2 resolved. The O2 sensor mount plug comes centrally located on some of the aftermarket Cat's, and there is enough wire on the sensor and on the connecting sensor lead-from the fuse panel-to adapt.
Assuming someone went out of their way to find a Cat. without a threaded mount; you would simply drill an appropriate sized hole, preferably on a flat for sealing purposes, and weld a nut -that the O2 sensor would thread into- onto the Cat. centered on the hole. No more problems.
Tell them you'll pay an extra $20.00 for a smooth finished weld and the whole thing is almost factory looking for about $125.00 in less than a half hour.
I was going to add mating flanges all over the exhaust (It's the pipes Laddy, post) but, it gets expensive, is time consuming , you have more places/joints that can leak, on my 3" pipe experiment things wanted to hit the pavement and finally even with a 3 bolt pattern mating flange one of those damn bolts is going to be a knuckle buster.
I know you have good intentions and want the best for your sHARk but don't turn this into High Tech Jupiter shot.
You can have a great looking exhaust system - even though no one else will ever see it- at a VERY REASONABLE COST without having EXPERTS devise a fix at some expense for a non-problem.
Your dime makes it your call, but I would not advise going down the money pit trail for this one.
HTH
Keep it rolling.
Enjoy it.
