Post PO IDENTIFICATION

In the months that I have owned my shark I have come to several conclusions about the Previous Owners of my car. These have been reached by careful deductive reasoning and explain a number of findings. Let me list them:

1. The morbidly obese janitor,
who carried a bunch of keys on a retractable chain in his left rear pants pocket. This is why the outside bolster of the driver's seat is so worn and why there are scratches in the leather.

2. The one armed bank robber,
who needed to get out of the car REALLY fast and who was incapable of releasing the seat belt so it didn't take a divot out of the paint on the door jamb.

3. The werewolf,
whose claws scratched up the paint under the door handle when he drove under a full moon.

4. The dyslexic,
who was unable to read the correct tire sizes and who, therefore, bought ALL FOUR tires the wrong size.

Perhaps some of you can share your deductions about your POs.

Mine was most likely blind.

Why else would he not need interior lights, driver's side window washer, or recognize the puddles of steering fluid (ATF) and coolant on the floor?

Probably lazy, too, since all of these except the coolant leak were fixed in less than an hour.

I shouldn't complain too much...the car was still in better shape than the others I checked out before it.

Mine thought that the self-cancelling turn signals were an option ! He told me this when I test drove the car.

While looking at different 928's, I had been browsing Rennlist and any other 928 site out there so I knew that sometimes the steering wheel hub could be put on incorrectly.

I ordered the MOMO wheel and hub even before having the car. That was my first and easiest mod / fix I have ever done.

Mine was a successful, very busy MD, who was meticulous about caring for the car. That explains why there were only 10,000 miles on the car after 3 years, but an oil change about every six months, (by the dealer, no less, who recorded the milage on the maintenance documentation at every instance). He also forgot to let the over inflation out of the tires after the winter storage, that is why there was no middle tread left on the tires after 10,000 miles.

I am still indebted to my PO............Thanks Doc, it was a great buy and I am still nuts about "gretch".

My PO must have had holes in his pants pocket.
I have found about $50.00 in change under the seats, under the carpets, under the center console, etc. Every time I remove something in the car, more loose change shows up.

You did better than me. I only found 20 cents in the change holder.

Someday I'll get it out....someday.

I think I can one-up even Gretch: Mine was a Hollywood TV producer, who put on only 10K after *four* years! The car was absolutely brand new and was an incredibly lucky find for me. The PO had six other cars and sold the 928 to get a Benz. (I think of him when I think of the 928's marketing muddle, stuck in between the sports car and the luxury market. For folks like my PO who actually thought their 928 would be like a Benz, it didn't work out!)

Interestingly, the rear tires also were worn in the middle. I don't think it was a winter issue in Hollywood though. They were Goodyear NCT's (yuck!). They continued to wear in the middle even with proper alignment and pressure, and I've never had the problem since. I chalk it up to just weird tires.

I think I found a quarter or two in it. On the other hand, though I didn't get rich on change, it was nice that all the equipment and accessories were still intact, right down to the unopened plastic bag in the spare tire compartment, the original window sticker and manuals, and what I think must have been original spare belts too.

rjtw,

I still have all of that stuff in the spare tire compartment, plus the manual, the window sticker and even the "original" spare belts. It seems that the fewer owners a car has had the more intact it may be........

PO1: Drove 50K of uneventful miles in 8 years. All dealer service records maintained religiously. No damage and no dings.

PO2: Drove 49K of uneventful miles in 6 years. All service & manitenance records kept. No damages and no dings. Only major repair was replacing AT at about 90K. Obsessive about exterior maintenance (according to PO3).

PO3: Drove the car 3K miles in 3 years. Had the engine completely degrease and all service records maintained. Anally about leaks so all hoses, askets and o-rings changed.

PO4: Me... thanks to all previous POs. I got lucky! Was looking at fixer-upper 944s for almost same $$ when stumbled upon the shark. Oh, found 4 mints in the ashtray!

My PO...A kinky revolutionary!

He was out to prove that you COULD run a shark without using a thermostat - by using a butt plug!!

here's the previous thread with all the details!

My PO was some ridiculously skinny achondroplastic dwarf who actually fit into the SportSeats that came with the car. Shorty also installed a tiny 280mm Momo steering wheel and sat so far forward that the released seat-belt buckle repeatedly slingshotted into the rear quarter-panel often enough to break through the upholstery on it. Also, that short person apparently didn't notice the dysfunctional rear seat elevation switch which caused me to drive the first few miles looking over the front bumper cover, directly at the first 3 feet of asphalt in front of the car.

He did, however, have an appreciation for modern wheels and sticky tires, so, for that, I am truly appreciative.
