Interior lights wont shut off
This morning I took my daughter to school and when we got to the front of the school she got out and I drove away. I looked over and the passenger side door light was on and thought she had played with it and left it in the on mode, but I noticed all the interior lights were on. I removed and checked both door button pins and they go in and out smoothly and lights are still on. Pulled the interior light delay relay and they still wont turn off. Thinking I can manually turn all off and look into it this weekend when I realized that the small square red lights at the ends of the doors are still on when I closed the doors.
If I pull the #7 fuse they all turn off, but this fuse also controls the "Diagnostic Control". Any help would be appreciated

I know this is stupid...
But I had the same problem and discovered that my rear hatch - which seemed to be tightly shut - wasn't quite.
Make sure the rear hatch is completely shut.

The lights are wire Hot all the time so when the ground grounds the light comes on ...so maybe one of the grond wires on a light is grounding to the body ? that is all the pin switches do is touch a ground wire to the body BUT the ground signal from door switches goes through the relay. Look at the rear hatch reciever pin switch on the bottom there are two wires brown and brown with white stripe try unplugging them.

Diagnostic control power is not needed unless you have a diagnostic tester connected... so as a temp solution this iS OK.
One of your Brown white wires to the light fixtures is probably shorted to ground (or the fixture is broken) - take each fixture out to check, if any lights don't work check those first). It could be that you have a brown/white (switched ground) wire connection swapped to the light fixture frame connection (so did you mess with any recently?) Also first check the connection at the very bottom of the hatch receiver (behind tool panel) - is the switch broken or the wire shorted to ground - test by pulling the wire off

I haven't had interior lights for 10 years now since mine would not turn off. Looking at this thread, I went out and checked my hatch switch by pushing the plunger down manually with end of hammer and sure enough, that switch was intermittently turning the lights off. I tried to clean it and adjust it but just decided to disconnect that switch (disconnect the two wire connector) to the so that it is always off. The doors now control the lights on and off. The hatch does not turn the interior lights on or off but who cares as my doors now turn the lights on and off. There is a timer on my 1988 so takes about 15 seconds or so for the lights to go out when I shut the doors. I can live with this setup as I now have interior lights. Thanks for all the hints on this thread.

Had to deal with this on my car. The problem was the latch, not the switch.
In my case, the latch receiver sleeve was gone. When closed, the latch wasn’t pulled down quite far enough.
I initially placed a washer, as a spacer,in the bottom of the receiver so it pushed the switch further down.
When I realized the liner was missing and replaced it, the washer was no longer necessary.
