[QUOTE=heinrich]I really enjoyed this post, said it like I woulda ... and Mel's right about your wife. Trust him, he speaks from experience [/QUO
Thanks guys... yeah- She can be a real pistol. No changing her mind on the Jag , though... She wants her next one to be a Jag too. I can't blame her- It's a very sexy looking car- especially with a beautiful woman driving it.

With $7k for a 928 and $6k for some boost, you now are in the top 2% of the performance envelope.
Even a stock 85-86 928 has long legs from 65mph onward, I outran a 2001 mustang cobra by 2-3 car lengths from 65-145mph in my 86'.
One or more 928 members posted 0-60 in the 3 second range and 1/4 mile in mid 11's, I think you won't have any problem defending the 928's honor with that setup.
I have rode in the 996, and it sounds tame next to a 86+ 928 with the dual exhaust. They drive very tame next to a SC'd 928, which feels like its rearing up on its back legs and taking off like an arabian race horse!
People are ignorant, have different tastes, think they are purists, etc. The bottom line is the 928 is a very potent sports car if you know what your doing with it.

Eclise, if you think you are a ticket magnet now in your Lotus, better prepare for the 928 and the onslaught to follow. Realize that there are those among us who HATE Porsches, and some who HATE Porsche drivers. What am I, a psychiatrist? How would I know why.....(but I have some reasonable suspicions why). No matter. Set aside some time to deal with it and some to educate yourself with skills to counteract it. You will be stopped and written up even while driving your grandmother to church going 25 in a 25 mph zone. You will be charged with "driving a Porsche". You'll see. Part of the mystique.
You'll go home and wonder what the cop ate for dinner that made him a liar and a *****. (see above. nobody knows, not even cops I know.)
Another unique experience that is ongoing: you will be challenged by the idiots who come out of the walls wanting to beat a Porsche to the next light. Trucks, ricers, skateboarders, Mustangs (lots of Mustangs), econo-sedans, SUVs. (well, maybe not skateboarders). All the time everywhere. Then there are the buttholes who try from freeway speeds up, in clear air in the middle of nowhere; they simply don't know they have little chance of surviving past 100, but they try to hang with you anyway. Can't shake 'em unless you ...... For them, I let them go and I win.
For the cops, do your homework on your state's laws. You will then be pissed off sufficiently to fight back. Remember that most of the industrialized world is now pressuring Germany to abandon their no speed limit policies. Not only because the German safety record is superior to their own despite the limitless autobahns, thus embarassing the other countries and their lies to their people, but because such policies in Germany produce such superior machines compared to most of the other countries of the world. Can't have anyone better than the next guy can we? Well, that jealousy and resentment will be taken out on you, count on it.

LOL Ron I think I spit up reading your post! I didn't even stop to think about cop hate. Sad thing is, I wasn't even in the Lotus last night when I got pulled over, I was in a friggin 96 4 door Pontiac Grand Prix! Anyway, I like how you said 'i let them go and I win.' That is the same way I feel anymore. Street racing is not an option for me.
Who could hate a Porsche, LOL? Better yet, a 928?
The 928 will be mine, friends. Oh yes, it will be mine.
