Default Fog Light Protection

Anyone know where I might find someone selling fog light lense protection for my '89 S4? I tried ordering a set from 928 Specialists but they replied that they were unavailable from Stongard. Sounds like Stongard may not be in business anymore?

Be careful with these. I've heard that the thicker films cause overheating and lense breakage. I've seen this on a couple of cars, maybe someone who has them installed can confirm.

I've used such products on both of my 928s over the past 3 years & have my driving/parking lights on every time I drive, never had a problem. But now, I may rethink doing this if others have had problems with overheating/lens breakage.

Im running 100W bulbs..no cracking or anything. (except for the rock i took a few months ago ) I highly doubt the protective film will be an issue.

Er, are you saying you have the stonguard and the lens didn't crack from the heat? It's not clear, and if you do have the stonguards, it doesn't sound like they actually work very well.

FWIW, after having one of the fog light lenses on my '85 finally fall apart totally from one too many hits, I bit the bullet and bought new ones. I'm running higher wattage bulbs than stock (don't recall the wattage right now), but decided to put Stonguards on them as protection for my "investment", despite some reports that they trap the heat and result in cracking. Less than 2 weeks later, I found one of them had a nice big crack! I'm not sure how to explain this, as there was no obvious sign of a rock hit. The other one is still fine, over a year later. But the Stonguard is holding the cracked one together nicely!

Stongard. Upgraded xenon 55W bulb.
One lens cracked 2 weeks before I put in HID's. Hoping the HID's run cooler.

Anyone else tried this place?

I bought some of their clear flim but had to custom cut to fit for my extra driving lights. (Hella FF50's)
Think it was their 20mil film. But it was a lot thinner than the mongo thick Stongards.
Did Jeannie say they didn't have any in stock or did Stongard get sick of us 928'ers complaining about cracked $200 fog light units.

The fog/driving lights don't seem to be too hard to custom cut film for. At least you don't have to punch out openings for the main headlight aiming nipples.

Stongards do do a very good job of holding cracked/shattered lenses together because their film is so thick.

100W in a stock lense..no stone guard

Ive never used the stone guards.

IMHO..if a rock hits your lense hard enough it will crack. Mine sounded like a gun shot when it happend. Thank gaaawd it wasnt my new windshield!

For me, Stongard + 100 W H3 bulbs = cracked lens about a year ago. Went back to Stongard + 55 W H3 bulbs and all has been OK.

Thanks for the info, I will check it out.

Basically the order was updated to say "when/if" Stongard product was received, they would ship to me. I got the impression Stongard was not making this product anymore...

I've not had heat probs on my Stonegard equipped 968...although I did have to fork out $160 for a new fog light lens assemby due to a rock break (it's an assembly...not just the glass). That was BEFORE stonegard. So far so good w/the covers. I'm thinking of putting them on all my P cars. It's still sold....maybe Performance Products? Or you can buy the stuff and cut your own.

It appears by the manufacturer's product listings, that they no longer offer the glass guards. With their online shopping, they only offer the paint protectors.

Maybe this is only true for those running hotter lamps? Or in hot climates?'
It would be nice to know...maybe measure heat...before and after.
