My fuel light went on!
One more thing I thought I had to fix but is really just fine...
After driving it since August and running the take low quite a few times and never seeing the low fuel light (except when starting the car) I had decided that something on the sender was bad.
Last night I was driving home and I thought I was really pushing it to the edge when all of the sudden the light came on! 3 miles later (today) I filled up the tank and put in 19.393 gallons. Reading other messages here about low fuel/fuel capacity tells me I probably have another 2-3 gallons to go.
I also read something about calibration... how do you do that? I'd like the needle to point to reasonable places when the tank is full and low. Can I calibrate the light too?

What year is your 928? The digital dash has a feature to calibrate. It is all documented in the diagnostic manual of the dash.

There is no calibration per se, but if you feel adventurous and electronically talented it's certainly possible to tweak this -- you could also change where the fuel light comes on by moving the contacts, but then you would have to shorten the wires(or lengthen them, if you want a reduced margin).
First clean all contacts between the sender and the gauge, and clean the wires. If you're lucky, like I was, that will improve it enough that you won't think it worth the hassle to go from 95% perfect to perfect.

Hi Chaad,
Thanks for your comment! I appreciate that. I had to change ISP a few times and my website was therefore hard to find. Sorry about that.
Bronto: for the '79 you will have to stick with Sharkskin. He said it all. There's a few instructions around when you want to dismantle the in-tank sender.
