Hey now, I waited to start this project knowing I'd have to drive my car north if we lost, but since we didn't it's go time. Heck I could be half way done by now if I hadn’t waited.

Regarding your visit. I posted something about F1 tickets and didn't generate much interest. Indy in the month of May is always interesting. We could do something related to opening day or one of the qualifications. Perhaps we could drum up some interest from our buds in Michigan (Andrew, Chad, Roger, Dennis, Dave, Etc.???)

Hans is taking his car down to Texas for a Champaign makeover in March. I’m don’t know when he expects it back, but I guessing he is looking at least sometime in April. Until then, I believe Brett and Rod have the only streetable 928’s at the time. I’m trying to encourage a few more local 928 owners to become more active… we’ll see.

Attached are pictures of more things found that were broken. Arm rest, console attachment tabs, console side carpet backing, rear seat belt retractor trim, and sound padding under slow pedal.

I have already fixed the armrest using one of Nicole’s handy brackets (pictures forthcoming). I believe she also stalks a solution for the console tabs.

Any ideas on how to source a suitable backing for the console carpets? I remember seeing someone selling some sort of cheap after market solution for around $50, but haven’t seen them lately. It appears to have a little contour, so cutting out of flat material might not work. Any ideas here?

A few pics installing the arm rest repair bracket purchased from Nicole. This is a great fix and really not all that difficult. I glued and screwed mine together.

Im doing almost the exact same thing to mine and so far it's been two months. I expect to be finneshed in another 3 to 4 weeks.

I’m in the middle of the leather rehab. What's the secret to separating the seat back from the bottom? I removed the four obvious bolts, but is appears that there is still some sort of shaft where the two fold/recline. How do you get this out? I’ve removed the countersunk allen bolt and the circlip, but still nothing. Also, any special trick to getting the black plastic fold levels off?


I’m trying to expose all leather surfaces to redeye. I elected to try the SEM spray since one of the stock colors looks like a good match. First I cleaned everything with light soap and lots of water. Then plan to use Leatherique rejuvinoir and pristine clean. After that I plan to light sand and use the SEM prep (as opposed to lacquer thinner). Then spay many light coats. How did other get dye down in all the cracks; especially in the front seats?

Kurt: the little Allen screw serves to compress a rubber bumper to lock the shaft in place.
Do not remove the Allen completely. Just loosen it enough to relax the rubber bumper and use it to pull the chaft out.
If you can't pull the shaft from the Allen, just slip some long nose pliers between the backrest and the hinge, grab the shaft and push it out.





You will also need to remove the backrest cable from it's clamp.

I need help trying to figure out the correct way to reassemble the passenger seat connector that accidentally got separated. Following are a couple pictures to see what I’m up against. After studying the pictures, I’ve determined the longer brown wire should go across from the hole it currently in on the picture called possible solution. So now it’s a 50/50 guess on where to put the yellow and green wires.

Does anyone know what color wire belongs on the same side as the brown wire?

Can't help you with the connector. However, that rear seat belt rosette pictured back on 2-18 is available from any of the 928 vendors. The missing tabs are stapled to the inside of the interior quarter panels.

That usually works in most cases, but unfortunately I disassembled this one with my butt. Too bad my head wasn't up it at the time.

Good progress this weekend. All the passenger compartment carpets have been installed. All the electronics have been reconnected. In fact, I fired her up for the first time in months and she fired right up without encouragement from the go pedal.

All I need to focus on now is finishing the leather redye and hooking up the stereo. Most of the leather prep is done except for a little crack filler. I’m hoping Hans will help me out with the audio connections (and rear quarter panel install).

I’m feeling better about my chances of making to SITM this year. I’ll call Jeannie tomorrow to secure a few door clips and seat bolts. While it might not be totally done, she should be good to roll. If I have enough time, I’ll change the oil.

On a different note… I have a new distraction for my daily driver. Another unloved, highly engineered, under valued, German engineering marvel is on it’s way to my house. I know I shouldn’t drink beer and play on eBay, but this one seemed like too good of a deal:
