Default AT position for rotating crankshaft?

I intend to check TB tension in next few days (had a warning light after kickdown recently, so haven't dared full throttle since). Have bought a Kempf tool which looks great to use.

When I rotate the crank to TDC, what position should the auto gearbox be in? Can I just leave it in P or does it have to be shifted to N?

Thanks,

Adrian

Shift it to N.

Shouldn't really make a difference for what you are doing. As far as the engine connection to the transmission internals is concerned anyway. The only difference between 'neutral' and 'park' is whether the parking pawl is engaged at the final drive.

Probably the biggest part of your concern should be whether the car is going to roll away while you are adjusting the belt.

Thanks everyone - sounds like P is OK.

I hadn't seen this mentioned in any TB write-ups so just wanted to avoid a silly mistake!

Best,

Adrian
