Sunroof motor runs a few seconds after sunroof all the way back
The sunroof motor runs a few seconds after the sunroof is all the way back. Is this normal? It has done this from the day I've owned the car and I keep forgetting to ask if this is normal. Thanks.

The '91s have express sunroofs.............never knew.
I wish I could delete mine totally, never open it and it takes up precious head room.

My 90 s4 is express as well. One touch and it goes back, but once it fully opens the motor still runs for a couple of seconds. The switch is not sticking.

Doesn't happen on my GTS. The sunroof motor and gear crank mechnism are joined by a non direct drive coupling. This is done for obvious reasons. Chances are, if the motor is still turning, the rubber coupling has gotten loose so the shaft turns inside of the coupling. This is my guess based on your explanation of the problem.

On my 90' S4, the motor runs until I hit the sunroof switch again (express mode). I think the controller is supposed to sense the sunroof is fully open and then shut off the motor.
But I have never let it run for a few seconds. I just assumed the sunroof transmission was worn enough that the controller doesn't sense an increase in current at the motor. Maybe I should let it run longer and see if it shuts off.
I did take the cover off and see that the motor drives the transmission, so it's not the coupling that's slipping.

this will sometimes happen to my '90GT. When it does, I tap the switch when I hear the motor continuing to run after the sunroof is open. If I don't hit the switch, you can definitely smell something working too hard. The fact that this happens sometimes, suggests to me that there is a sensor somewhere
