Headlight Motor won't stop.
Hello,
When I plugged in the 4 wires that go to the headlight motor and turn on the lights, the lights keep going up and down, up and down, up and down. What does anyone think could be the problem? The car is a 1979 928. Thanks for any suggestions. |
Sounds like either lighting relay problem (big double relay at right hand end of fuse panel) or more likely the contacts/disc in headlight motor which detects position of lights is bent.
Any clue in the work you were doing which led you to remove wires to motor? Is it relacement motor? Adrian |
When I bought the car, it was already disconnected. You are probably right about the disconnect in the motor. When I first plugged the motor in the lights went down and stopped, but the motor was getting hot so I took it out and found that a screw had come loose and the washer had jambed between the magnet and the bushing. There is also one of the rubber nipples that hold the contacts to the base missing which is causing it not to be aligned.
I guess I'll have to find a replacement rubber nipple for it. Thanks for the quick advise. |
This should be a clue.."When I bought the car, it was already disconnected" the wiring order is #1 brown red,#2 white black,#3 is yellow green,#4 is red black .

Sometimes that means an adjustment issue....had that problem with my 1980... had to adjust the motor up so that the A arm would swing through its full rotation...
