Default tensioner clamps

Sorry to drag up an older thread but I am now at this stage....

HTML Code:
Replace it with p/n 999.512.334.02, a hose type clamp 49-53mm
In the WSM in section 15.20 and subsequent pages, it shows drawings of the tensioners including clamps for both 16v & 32v.
Funnily enough in both cases they are the screw type clamps. see attached...

Marton,

That kind of threw me too. Also, part #7 in mine was not a circlip so much as a ring of steel. The tension seemed to be right, I just had to pry it out with a small screwdriver and replace it carefully when it went back in.

My rebuild kit came with the clamp and the rubber boot, so I used them, and used vice grips to put the clamp on.

Are you stuck on something with this?

Hi Mike

HTML Code:

Thanks but not yet

I have taken everything off and also loosened the old seals.
I ordered the parts yesterday from 928 intl; I will have to see what arrives and how it compares with what I have & what I need before I know if i am stuck or not.

I am just reading all the threads on this topic and creating maybe unnecessary worries for myself....

I just ordered p/n 999.512.334.02 from 928 Specialists. This is a radiator hose clamp. When I received it in the mail, it looks to be about twice as wide as the original TB boot clamp. I do not think this will work. Does anyone have another suggestion for a screw type clamp that is thin enough to work on the TB? I hate those crimp types.

Sorry, typo. Correct part number from the PET is

999.512.344.02, Clamp 49.9-53.0

I looked at my 928Intl invoice from 4/25/02, when I last bought this part. It shows a part number 999.512.345.02 (tensioner boot clamp 83-95) . That must be a typo too.

The clamp number in PET shows:

999 512 322 02 for 78-82
999 512 345 02 for 83-86
999 512 344 02 for 87-95

cast me to the devil if you wish but I have used (In English) Cable ties. (I think you call them zip ties in the US - Nylon Ratchet type) Have 18 months on the GT and 12 months on the SE checked both 6 months ago and Tensioners both OK and Cable ties OK. For various reasons mileage related TBelt tension check time is only just up on both cars.

No Jon I shan't be casting you to Hacker but those plastic bits are sure to break. I've seen them fall apart in my engine bay. Heat is their enemy. We'll let you stay up there with the resident angel Olson for now

Nippers work absolutely perfect. I just did this last week. I use the nippers to trim ceramic tile, etc.

999.512.344.02 is the crimp type clamp. One of the previous posts on this thread was talking about a screw type clamp for this boot. Does anyone have a p/n for a screw type clamp that is thin enough to use on the Tensioner boot.
