DAS Auto Shipping - Before and After Photos
My car is here. When it arrived the driver told me it wouldn't run, so I assumed the worst. Luckily, for now, it's a dead battery. They unloaded in my driveway, I compared the car to my photos and signed off. The car was covered with road grime that sure looked like it didn't get the top berth I paid extra for, though.
When I washed it, I confirmed that it definitely did not get the top berth I was promised. There were oil spots all over the hood, under the grime. Washing, I discovered that the oil had eaten into the paint. So there are white spots burnt in all over the hood and tops of fenders.
I called DAS, they immediately refunded the fee for top loading and are sending a claims agent to look at it. So, they acknowledge it wasn't top loaded (is the fee a scam?), and we'll see what the claims agent says. I don't know if it needs a repaint or a good polish. They claim to limit their damages to $250, but this error on their part is so egregious that there is no way they can limit themselves to that.
Luckily, I had Stan send me good photos of the body panels before the ship, so I can compare and contrast.
As for now, though, Harvey, I recommend you avoid DAS

I guess I got lucky when I used DAS. Paid for the top loading and expidited delevery and got it in 7-8 days. My battery was dead also but that was the PO's fault.
Sorry you had a bad exp with them.
*on edit and doing some comparisons a long time later. I ended up not having top load and got some rear end damage that I didn't notice at the time. Pictures that I got from the PO and mine from delivery showed things that must have happened from the time it was delivered and when I got it.
Didn't say anything about it up to this point since it was my fault for not asking for a pre-delivery inspection/comparision. They did have the PO's delivery tickets but didn't do a delivery inspection when I got there, I just grabbed the car and went, not knowing better.

Not sure if they transport for the general public, but PILOT transport is used by all of the automakers for transporting their cars to shows ect. They are very meticulous and do this on a daily basis so they know what they are doing.

About that "battery thing". I think they do it on purpose so if someone tries to steal the car they will have to deal with a dead battery first????? The battery on my SC was dead on arrival. Several other people has also reported dead battery. Conspiracy theory?

The last car DAS delivered for me, the Falcon, was fine when it arrived.

Hard to believe they don't slap a sheet of sticky plastic on the hood of the lower cars. That one dollar item might take a couple minutes to apply but would save them a lot in the long run.

I understand that they're constantly moving cars off and on the trailer as they make drops and pickups so the car may start on the top and end up anywhere. It's the driving on and off that sometimes results in damage...sometimes more than the $250 limit. What can you repair on a 928 for $250? Not much.

We (my coworkers and I) think that the oily substance may have been blowby - oil and/or diesel fuel - from the smokestacks of the rig that hauled it.
Hope it buffs out!

As Stan pointed out to me, the hood paint already had stone chips and checking. So, if DAS coughs up, I will put it toward a future refurbishment. That's downt he road, though. First, get it running.
